Ok, basicly, switch the knife with a dog, then strap a UAV onto the dog and feel the leetnez.

Driver: "What round have you got loaded?"

Gunner: "Rover"

I whole heartedly support this idea esp UAV/dog sentries with a muchous smaller radius that bark when an enemy comes close to a bunker

It's an idea, but would only fit for Insurgency maps, also I would be sad when dog died!!!

Nice pics Cain.

There were dogs in CoD4. In CoD: World at War, there's going to be flamethrowers and dogs in multiplayer...

In a full scale battle involving tanks, planes etc? And COD 4 and a WW2 game aren't the best references, I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but not for AAS.

No, It'd probably only fit for Insurgency.
But yeah, it's actually possible to make the dog bark when there are enemies close.
You can change the "beep" sound when the UAV spots something to a dog bark (Forgotten Hope changed the sound to a picture being taken)
And I'm pretty sure it's possible to remove the UAV radar scan on the map aswell.

I'd rather have the commander be able to fly a UAV from his command post and fire rockets at enemies than have a dog.

I wholeheartedly endorse this idea and think it would be freggin awsome!
But also, only for ins maps. And the dog should be able to attack like in rl, but not kill. I don't think canine units in rl are trained to anything else then incappacitating the enemy.
However, I'm in no kind of way a canine unit-expert so I could be wrong.

hmm, an idea for a solution would be to make the leach a vehicle armed woth a "dog-missile" so that you still can use your other weapons when using the dog, and if the dog finds something (lock on to the guy similar to the 2seat missile in bombjets in bf2) it'd start barking (to alert it have locked on to a bad guy). Then you'd press like secondary fire in order to release the dog which like a missile homes in on the bad guy and kills/arrests him.

the only bad thing with this would be that when the dog dies, you'd die to and the dog would explode and become a wreck, and when you have sent the dog away there would be no way to pick it up again (unless you make the dog drop an ammobagthing when it stops which only can be used to refill the leach ammo - tho thats hardcoded afaik)...

Oooh, this makes some sense. Okay, so Dog missile is released, animation shows handler unlatching leash from harness and dog strikes, the dog hits the target with some biting animation then "sits" near the corpse. You walk up to the dog and your Dog Missile ammunition is reloaded which shows you looking down and leashing the dog again. Make the reload range really short and then once your Dog Missile is reloaded the Ammo Dog disappears. Problem though, how would first and third person animations work while moving with the dog, looking up and down, and when you pull out another weapon?

This may not be possible with the BF2 engine, but I've been thinking how it could be done:

The dog barking to alert of enemy presence could be like a mobile UAV. In vanilla, when the UAV touched a target with it's circling bar, there'd be a little beep.

If that beep could be replaced with a bark, every so often an enemy was near, the dog UAV would bark it out.

You can also adjust the range of a UAV in BF2. So the dog could have a 25m range.
---
Now using it to attack could be done with animations, but it would look funny at times.

Dog on leash is the weapon, player presses fire button, dog goes forward and attacks. However, the dog going forward would probably go into walls or other objects. You could give this weapon range, so it only attacks so far.

Also, if you had another weapon for this kit, the dog would instantly disappear when switching to the pistol/rifle/knife. :(
Thats what I was thinking too. It wouldbe so friggin sweet. And yes only for INS maps. You guys are freakin hilarious with your responses.
I think it may be possible, with the right coder. Butthan again I know zilch about this stuff.

I know. I was referring to a small part of this comment:

I'm saying that he wouldn't be too happy seeing players using flamethrowers to burn up dogs in CoD World at War multiplayer.

Unique idea, but doubt it's possible with the engine.
