Road blocks have been suggested many times before and I believe are in the works.
Why should this be a task for the commander? Cell leaders would be better suited for this task.

Re: Ins Com
Ins Com has as much to do as the conventional forces, as locations of enemy assets need to be kept updated even more so on Basrah since ins get mortars and the brits do not.

Re: Ins Com
That's the commanders job. How can SL's do this with the same efficiency? Unless all of the Cell Leaders are on teamspeak, they cannot talk to one another easily, without having to stop and type a message to their team.Canadian4206 wrote:Well because if somebody does go Ins Commander, they can't do much but commander the other squads. This gives them something to do, not to mention that even though SL's can do this task.
Insurgent squads should be setting up ambushes, this is their primary role. Placing road blocks would be part of this task by funneling the enemy by blocking certain routes.Canadian4206 wrote:They should be more distracted in defending the caches, and attacking the enemy rather then running around everywhere setting up road blocks. Its just too much of a distraction from the game-play.
Squads count on their commander to command in PR.Canadian4206 wrote:Squads count on there Squad leader to lead them in PR
I have to disagree here too. I can remember the times pre 0.7 where commanders were known as 'Bob the builder' their job is to command, building is "just too much of a distraction from the game-play"Canadian4206 wrote:Commander is a one man team who has the time to run around the map putting road blocks in valuable positions.
The commander should stay at his post so he can concentrate on commanding, not running around getting shot. Have you tried commanding in 0.8? There's more for you to do as commander than you seem to realise.

Yes, this is true and as it should be...Canadian4206 wrote:What are you talking about? You are mixing up words, I said all the commander has to do is command. Meaning go into the commander menu and give squads orders. Squad Leaders have to lead there squad to the objectives while setting up rally points along the way.
What am I talking about??? I think you've misunderstood everything I've said.
Commanding is a full time commitment, there is only one commander per team.Canadian4206 wrote:Squad Leader is a full time commitment, and can't be bothered to be side tracked to setup Barriers.
So when you're squad leader, you can't be bothered to set up bunkers? Can you be bothered to set up MG's? Can you be bothered to set up any kind of asset? I know we're talking about insurgency here but the insurgents don't really have any assests to set up at the moment. I like the idea of setting up road blocks but we seem to be debating weather the commander or squad leader should be setting up assets. This is a silly discussion, this is the kind of task a Cell Leader will do, not the commander.
If you don't like sitting at a location, commanding your side, don't bother. What do you mean very little to build? The commander doesn't need to build anything, he should be at his hideout.Canadian4206 wrote:I have played the Insurgent Commander many times, and its a boring job. Very little to build, rest of the time you are sitting around at a location commanding your side.
Agreed, the commander could do with some additional things to do but all he should really be thinking about is commanding.Canadian4206 wrote:This gives the commander a additional thing to do
How would this be any different to the barbed wire that SL's can deploy? If the road blocks are implemented and coded in a similar manner, it would be perfect.Canadian4206 wrote: not to mention how many squads there are. Can you imagine every squad trying to request a barrier? It defeats the purpose of barriers in the first place...blah di blah...If you got Squads all over the map, requesting barriers in different locations. Congrats you blocked one road on one side of the map. The enemy can just take the multiple other options that don't have barriers since they were all used up because every Squad leader in the game had the power to call one.
I've commanded a fair few times in 0.8, admittedly only a couple times for the insurgents. On Basrah, there was a hideout at the mosque where I could happily sit inside in safety. IIRC, there's a dead-zone where coalition forces can't enter the mosque area.Canadian4206 wrote:Have you commanded in 0.8? Doesn't matter where the commander is, he can be shot at. There are no safe zones.
Yes.Canadian4206 wrote:0.8 maps are far larger than the previous versions. Expecially Insurgent Maps. You really think that a commander setting up some road blocks is a liability? Compared to what? The commander doing the same thing, except not setting up road blocks.
As I've said, road blocks are a nice idea but it simply isn't a task that commanders should need to do. When I'm commanding, i don't want to be running around having to build things all over the place because, as you've pointed out "0.8 maps are far larger than the previous versions".
Think about it logically in real life, can you really imagine a terrorist organisation relying on their leader (eg. Bin Laden) to build road blocks? That's hilarious! He would task his Cell Leaders to do his bidding.
