Engineer Damaging Enemy Vehicles with Wrench

Post by llPANCHOll »

Since the removal of C4 from the Engineer kit, it seems the kit has lost much of its usefulness in game. I do appreciate the fact that there arent guys Tard Rushing Bunkers with C4 anymore.. (GUILTY) but the Engineer cant even take down an unoccupied Enemy Command Truck, Vodnick or HMVW. I used to play the Engineer role nearly exclusivly, and I made a point never to let an enemy vehicle sit Idle, waiting for an enemy to come and get it to build a FB or mow you down with the .50 cal.

I know alot of you will say, "Put a Mine under it!"... but this doesnt really solve the problem, firstly the engineer carries only 1 Mine, and with the new Ammo system, (which I also appreciate) that 1 Mine is way too important to leave under an Idle Vehicle.

As an engineer he would have the knowedge to disable vehicles as well as fix them, ie cutting the brake or fuel lines, or removing the ignition wires. But since this may be difficult to code..(vehicle present, but not operable) Using the wrench to cause damage to enemy vehicles would accomodate this, you could have them cause damage at the same rate as they fix freindly vehicles, this way someone couldnt sneak up on a tank and expect to take it down with his wrench.

If I recall, a support weapon, such as the wrench, shovel, medic bag, can't be given attack properties. You'd need a separate assault wrench, and as the engy is now, you'd need to apply red.murder's 10th weapon slot thing (only selectable with the 'F' weapon scroll).

Still, a whole squad of engineers with their wrenches out, might be damaging to gameplay.

No wrench, wrench, wrench.......... Smoke, Fire, Get up and leave... BOOM! Vehicles allready do this, giving you ample time to Press "E" and run.

The Defib, or Epipen is not a support weapon?? You can use that to Res as well as Kill..

I doubt it would damage gameplay..
And I would gratefully give up the "Trip Flare" for an "Evil Wrench"

The defib and epipen work differently from the wrench, shovel and medic bag, thusly why I didn't mention those. :) The epipen and wrench have different weapon codes, that make them work differently from each other.

Differences to note:

+Defib/epipen can bring a solider back from the dead with one click.

-Medic bag requires holding down of the mouse button for it to operate.

The engine works in mysterious ways.

Medic bag was tossed on ground in vanilla. Doesn't really say much about the engines mysterious ways.
I'd like to hear it from a coder. I think it's a really healthy suggestion.

The Bandages now are probably just re-skinned and medic bags with less health in them, and the medic bag now is probably a reskinned version of the wrench to be used on soldiers.. That being said, I am sure there is a work around that would allow the Engineer to disable Enemy vehicles.. Without giving them Explosives.

I dunno, I could see this working in one way if it's possible, though I doubt it is.

Maybe make it where the engineer could disable the vehicle rather than damage it so what Waaah said doesn't happen.

Off topic. Hello everyone, I'm back. :D

They had the torch in BFV that did that. Was stupid as heck cause you'd see people running around with torches out chasing tanks

Except in vbf2 when you died doing that, you'd spawn again instantly. And usually within 100m of your objective.

Make it that you need to be standing for 5 seconds before you can use it. Or crouched, something like that... perhaps find a way to make it that you need to be under the vehicle, or near the access hatches.

Torch, yep it could be skinned as anything.. a screwdriver, a pair of wirecutters, whatever, and make the damage it does less than what it was in Vanilla so It would take a couple minutes to destroy the vehicle.

Who am I kidding..
Myself obviously..
This will never happen..

YES.

If it is possible, then make it in places like on top of a tank, the wheels of APCs, under light vehicles, etc.

BUT, if engineers do get small, timed explosives, such as the M113 charge being modeled, then this is useless. We can just use those.

i like the idea. itd be equivalent to sabataging an enemy vehicle. maybe make an indicator for occupied vehicles being sabataged so that sabataging would only be effective against unattended vehicles.

sounds so great! Hope this gets in. But imo only for unmanned vehicles. Dont wanne see engi´s running behind an enemy tank to try to wrench it down :-)

But on unmanned it would be great!
