I have said that EA's lazy.
As far as the patch goes, don't expect it at all. Just be happy or angry when or if it ever shows up. Personally, I think EA should be working on BF3, not using up DICE's time with BF2 patches.

Well, EA said it themselves, but there could be delays: EA - ::Battlefield Franchise::

"We are looking to release this update by Winter of this year."

It may effect PR. If you're worried, don't install 1.5 until the PR team greenlights it's good to go. The team may make a hotfix to resolve any possible issues as well.

There has been a lot of discussions on the Battlefield forums regarding the Battlefield 2 Update 1.50, so this is to let you all know what’s happening.


Update 1.50 is still in development, we have held back on releasing the update as we have become aware of and are taking preventative measures against 3rd party tools which have been severely affecting everyone’s playing experience recently by crashing dedicated servers, clients as well as allowing account spoofing. We hope you understand our decision to delay the release to resolve these issues rather than releasing early with a need to update again.

We are looking to release this update by Winter of this year.

Maybe they will throw in widescreen, I was surprised when I heard they released a 2142 patch with widescreen but not for BF2. (2142 has WS now right?)

Is anyone still actually playing vbf2? It takes one round of grenade spamming, bunny hopping vanilla noobs before I'm right back in PR.

edit. What I mean is, we don't necessarily have to dance to Dice's tune and update Bf2.

This so called patch most likely won't fix anything important, but only provide more problems that BF2/PR does not need. Kinda like the other patches did. They've had a few YEARS now to get it right and they didn't, so why should this mess be any different.

This so called patch may serve as the final nail in the coffin of BF2 so as to destroy it and force us to buy BF3 or some other half baked product.

Most likely any patch that comes out now will cause tons of issues with PR and many other mods out there. I think they have done quite enough to BF2. Just allow it to finish living out it's days as is, and enjoy a peaceful death instead of crashing down in a flaming pile of Ka Ka.

from what I've heard the main thing DICE are working on in this patch is more upto date punkbuster bits and other things to cut down on hackers and cheaters etc. if it works, then we would be in luck, big bit here is IF.

There is also the chance of the patch braking lots of stuff that PR relys on, quite likly but we will just have to hope it dont.

In the end, I'm hoping for the best but getting prepared for the worst

the patch will change some big things as it seams, and basicly exchange the bf2 engine with the version used in bf2142, that had been the latest gossip at least.

I still play BF1942 (but now not as much as PR or Crysis Wars, for instance). Actually, from my perspective, BF1942 is the best of the series. And we still have a considerable number of people playing it (at least in my country).
