Muttrah Streetnames

Post by llPANCHOll »

After realizing that communicating locations on Muttrah would be much easier if the Streets were named, I set out on a project to do just that. The following images are the fruit of that labor.

The streets with Arabic names are accurate to the actual city of Muttrah. The rest of them were laid out in one direction Alphabetic, Numeric in the other, there are some exceptions where placenames seemed appropriate.

These maps were originally used for the Planning of Scrim between Tactical Gamer and Texas Teamplayers.. They proved to be valuable both for planning and Communication in game.

After careful consideration, I think that releasing these maps to the public could only to help to elevate teamplay and assist in communication. Here they are for your consumption.

* :tired: strain*

I've just memorised all of them.

If this is combined with the topographical maps idea, it'd be complete win!

Pancho - you have way too much time on your hands :D

Good idea though - irl you would have maps with street names, even if you were in enemy territory.

The Tactical Gamer community recently had a scrim against the Texas Team Players community (clan?). We had an incredible plan laid out. Each squad had been pre-organized, each given specific orders on what to do before hand. We even had dedicated spots for firebases and how to place them so the Humvee isn't FUBAR when it spawns. One of the things that our strategy masterminds did was make this great map of street names to make communication easier.

Yeah, we're hardcore.

Pancho, extraordinary work.

Are you interested in joining CATA1 for Campaign 7 of the PR Tournament?

I like the names but I don't want it on a map, in combat if the names are too big it gets in the way, and if there too small you cant see them. Good idea but ill pass on it.

Wouldnt really be readable on the ingame map i think. And wouldnt be readable because of the blue dots everywhere anyway.

Nice idea tho

Do what we did - print them out and tape them next to our monitors for the scrim. Sure does make it easy to relay the location of hostile targets to CAS and APC crews over teamspeak. llPANCHOll is awesome and I'm glad he's on my side!

Set them as a wallpaper on your 2nd monitor, or put them on your iPhone or iTouch, but I dont belive they will ever be implemented on the Mini-Map.. The only way it would work on a mini-map anyway is if they only showed up on the zoomed image.. most probably the middle zoom only.. but as the mini-maps are intended to be satilite imagery, not road maps, it is very unlikely that they will be implemented in any way "in game".

In pubs they're pretty much entirely useless unless they are on the minimap. But oh well.

Rhino loves his minimaps too much to let me touch this one. :) One problem I see here is that the words are too small to be legible. The max minimap size is 1024x1024 without adding a significant graphical burden as the first image is. Even zoomed I have a hard time making out the names there. Playing with fonts and colors while easing up the size a little can help.

I was debating putting road names on Ramiel, but so far I have settled on just keeping the district names to keep it from being too cluttered. The more major roads leading to the city can be labeled but this would hurt consistency and they themselves are not too useful.
