.8 has killed PR
I've been playing this game since .6, and I just can't take the changes in .8 anymore. Most of my friends on xfire that play this game have stopped playing altogether. Also, there are far fewer servers up now, TG is the only reliable American server, Texas Teamplayers, battlearena, and the other US servers are barely up now.
I thought this game was all about a BALANCE of realism and gameplay (fun) . Now it's just REALISM > Gameplay. And some of the changes aren't even realistic at all, like the sprint, weapon animations, and other things.
Does anyone else notice a drop in the playerbase and overall fun?

Re: .8 has killed PR
Saying .8 has killed .8 is just sooo wrong..This is one of the best releases so far..There are some things that need fixing, but it's small..If some of the small issues are fixed,I think some of the annoyances found right now, will leave...
I love .8 though...Just small things need fixed, and patch seems to be taking care of it.

Re: .8 has killed PR
texas teamplayers is almost the only server i play on, its atleast 2/3s full at most times, same with the battlearena servers. I have no idea what your talking about. Also when i do a server refresh i see in the neighborhood of 100-115 servers which is about the same amount ive been seeing since version .4
so what exactly is it you dont like about .8? you werent very specific. you said its now balance > realism but what aspects are you talking about?

I think 0.8 is a pretty awesome release; however, I do also believe it has killed PR. There are a lot less players compared to .756. I like 0.8 for the most part, but apparently the general population did/does not.

I've been playing sense .4 and well just compare that to now, but yes I wish we still had some great maps. But .8 didn't kill pr its more "tactical" at least that's how I've been playing.

Yeah, 0.8 killed PR but not because of the gameplay. Because of all the Punkbuster problems and because it take a good computer to run it
Sorry for my english

I just don't like some of the people who played it, plus it just... seems to have lost a certain luster, i don't really know what though...

Re: .8 has killed PR
if you were here since 0.6, then you'll remember all the threads like this when 0.7 was released
0.85 will get every1 back for a try, if they don't like it then they don't like it
several of my mates aren't playing much anymore because school has restarted, or like me, they are now in an institute of higher learning
0.75 imo was far superior to 0.7, and I hope the same holds true for .85 and .8

That's extremely true can't play most severs because of punk buster, we should burn the makers-CJ- wrote:Yeah, 0.8 killed PR but not because of the gameplay. Because of all the Punkbuster problems and because it take a good computer to run it![]()

Yes, there are far fewer players now. Like I said, I have lost FOUR SOLID PR buddies to .8 They've completely stopped playing since it came out, and I wouldn't have much fun even if I was still playing with them. They all hate the changes, and so do I.
Also, saying there are 110 servers up means nothing, theres only about 4 playable servers up, which is actually a lot right now, since battearena and HOG are down a lot, especially during the day.

Re: .8 has killed PR
Seriously, Punkbuster is killing PR, I still haven't fixed it perfectly yet and I can't go through more than one match tops without it kicking me or having to restart PR because of errors. Gameplay is fun, punkbuster is not, that and PR released at about school start up time.-CJ- wrote:Yeah, 0.8 killed PR but not because of the gameplay. Not to mention Gamespy going loopy. But seriously the population is about where it usually is, about 19-20 mark.

Yeah, Gamespy's shenanigans didn't help at all, and I do get the feeling that alot of new players get turned off by technical issues, mostly due to punkbuster I'll wager

Re: .8 has killed PR
I honestly cannot agree 100%, perhaps 95%, but not all the way.
It feels too much like I'm playing one army with different skins. As much as balance is a good thing, its not realism. The planes, apcs, tanks, and even a few of the jeeps all feel the same.
The mod is great, it really is (as much as I like to knock it for a "lack" of airpower, I will have to live with the fact that the US are somehow NOT going to deploy airpower in every theater in the PR universe, thats fine). The Armies are all very different in real life (assuming there would actually be a MEC formed in the event of a world war) and I don't think they would equip the vehicles exactly alike, and they DEFIANTLY would not all handle exactly the same.
Imagine getting a bunch of pizzas (for free none the less). When you open them, the boxes all say different things. But they smell a little alike, look alike, and when you taste them, they all seem to have the same toppings. Aside from the Insurgent pizza, they all act the same after you get past how the packaging looks. (The insurgency pizza seems to have an inferiority complex after its buddies and is trying to be like them)
PR isn't dead, but it is losing its momentum in much the same way as a suddenly pilot-less aircraft.

Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.
The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.

Well mat, given the engine i guess most, if not all is done to give the players the most realistic experience the engine allows. My pint of guinness...

funny that v0.8 is by far the most popular version with a peak of 1.5k players on after release and since then 500 players average constantly playing PR over the past 3 or so months? PR is only stronger with the new release going by thous stats

Re: .8 has killed PR
Players need to adopt to PR, like taking kits if they really have a plan for them for example. And using kits accordingly. For example if you have the Automatic rifleman kit dont go just prone and shoot. You will get killed. Flank hostiles who are busy shooting at your squadmembers and spray their position prone from the side.

Re: .8 has killed PR
I don't think that they're simply trying to give us the most realistic experience, they're trying to balance realism with gameplay (fun)
Back on topic, I think .8 failed in that delicate balance this game tries to have between realism and fun. I have also lost a lot e-friends over xfire due to .8 being so unenjoyable. Most of them are back to COD4 or not playing anything because PR is all they played.
You combine all these questionable or downright terrible gameplay changes and all the punkbuster/gamespy/huge increase in Computer power needed....
I agree with you completely that .8 has killed PR.
Those stats don't account for WHO is playing, just that PEOPLE are playing. Since .8 was the most popular and most advertised release yet, it'd be safe to assume that a lot of these players playing now are people that started their PR careers post-.8 There is definitely a high level of attrition with PR vets that the OP was referring to when he said he lost a lot of PR buddies.
I've lost a lot too, and I find myself barely playing this game anymore.

Well if the number show different (and yes we keep track) then isn't this thread just another random "PR is dead" thread that pop up from a new joined member?
