Vanilla Maps from PR.7x
I posted this in another thread, but everyone was more interested in what the OP was really talking about, rather than my blatant derailing attempt, so let's try again.
I still haven't overcome my grief after losing two maps which I felt the Vanilla crew did a sweet job on and worked well in PR... I speak of Gulf of Oman and Zatar Wetlands. Do we honestly believe for a second that something like Al Kuffrah Failfields is a tactically more interesting and challenging map than these two maps were? Or that Jabal Al Stalemate's tit for tat play brings more to the table than these combined arms maps did? Oman might need a few distance tweaks, and Zatar might have needed some more variety in US assets (maybe as they captured flags they could get some spawns), but they were pretty damned good maps, that I really miss playing in PR. Am I alone in this?
Who else really wants these maps back?

Re: Vanilla Maps from PR.7x
I sure as hell want these maps back, I thought the gameplay was great. Unfortunately, I think this mod is trying to completely distance itself from vanilla in every way, and unfortunately, that includes not using any of its maps. I don't see them bringing them back in the standard releases.
Also, LOL at the Al Kufrah Failfields reference. That map is everything that Fail dreams of being.
Rhino, are you getting snippy at another OP? He's saying he misses maps, that's all. No need to go all "then why don't you do it yourself" on him....

Zatar Wetlands was the first PR map that I played. It was awesome. I remember blowing up APCs and making the US team cry. A lot of the vanilla maps are well designed and it seemed like the map makers wanted people to play PR style when they designed them.

Perhaps, but auditing them myself isn't going to make TG or GSA run them so I can play with lots of people. I'm a very strong believer that the only way meaningful changes can be made is by working with the system to do them.'[R-DEV wrote:Rhino;822333']https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f189-m ... audit.html

k well, if there is such a demand for these mas as you say there are and you do a good job in auditing them, I dont see any reason we would not support a "official map pack" that we could do a news post for with download links on the site etc.Truism wrote:Perhaps, but auditing them myself isn't going to make TG or GSA run them so I can play with lots of people. but the demand and the quality you would do them in is the main questions here.
so I'll tell you what, I'll stick a poll up on here and we will see if enough players would want this.

Ouch, I'm getting snapped and whipped out etc. Notice also that I didn't say there was a great demand for them, just that I missed them. I then asked if anyone else did.[R-DEV]Rhino wrote:k well, if there is such a demand for these mas as you say there are and you do a good job in auditing them, I dont see any reason we would not support a "official map pack" that we could do a news post for with download links on the site etc.

Also, the poll is an unfair question. Few would argue that PR doesn't have plenty of good maps to play (I certainly wouldn't), but this doesn't mean that Oman or Zatar don't deserve to be there more than certain other maps, or that they aren't good enough to be there on their own. Hell I nearly voted "No" in my own poll because the question was so slanted. Hell, I don't want a vBF2 map pack for PR when it's phrased like that. I can just imagine being nade spammed in Karkand all over again.

This would be nice to have, would be fun to have some vBF2 maps PR style..But if it doesn't happen,it's cool, not a biggy want for me,lol..
I might be able to help convert some of the maps over, but I'll keep you posted on my availability right now..My own map has me busy, lol.

Oh noes... Vanilla maps failed in the earlier releases. Personally, I wouldn't even want to think about having them back......

I thought that daquing oilfields was the best vBF2 map. It would be great to see a return.

Oman sucked pretty much.

Kuffrah > Zatar, Oman, Daqing
The tankbattles are awesome to watch or play. Yes, i can even enjoy our tanks getting pwnd by al well-positioned enemy. As infantry you can be cannonfeed now and then...
But isn't Kashan the same type of map?

The less vanilla content, the better I say.
With all the awesome maps we have now and the great ones on the way, I'm not going to miss them.
I will admit I had fun on the maps mentioned but PR can do better.

Re: Vanilla Maps from PR.7x
they should have been AAS from the start. Or even both counterstrike mode and AAS (i am aware of the extra amount of work involved, and about 100MB extra) on gulf i would have had the flags capable from the left of beach to the right, then hotel-town-base. on zatar i always imagined amasing firefights crossing from airbase -factory- refienery. could even have a flag way north of farm called FOB that gives you extra assets ^_^
but like you guys said, there are better PR maps on the way.

I hated Zatar, as US you would get stone-walled at the landing zone. As MEC everyone would defend airfield and not think about the other flags (And it essentially became vBF2 flag layouts apart from you couden't spawn on the flags)
Gulf of Oman became frustrating for US, and it was terribly easy as MEC. not to mention you couden't flank in a heli ever.
The only map that was kinda good was Daquing Oilfields, which after they removed the tanks became quite good.
IMO I don't want to see the vBF2 maps return, PR can do maps alot better then DICE.
