Re: Vanilla Maps from PR.7x
I loved Zatar, though if I recall it needed a bug fixing. I also really enjoyed Daqing. I'd love to see them return.
An official map pack is a good idea, and I'd certainly consider installing it on our server. My only concern is that not all players would have it, and they'd therefore be kicked when the server changes to a 'map-pack map'.
For that reason I'd prefer to see the maps back in PR proper. Servers don't have to have them in their rotation, and players don't have to stay if they don't like it. But it does give choice.

Re: Vanilla Maps from PR.7x
I dislike most vBF2 maps because they generally do not feel realistic, they feel like giant paintball arenas. Zatar wasn't too bad, but I hated that you couldn't take the LZs
what you should do is remake Helmand Province.....ooooohhh yeah.
Or...if you can...it would be kinda nice...to try one of the BF2-SF night maps...

They're finally gone from the server map rotation, and 1/3 of the community wants them back.
People are strange.
Not for me, don't like any of them. PR has evolved way beyond them.

Re: Vanilla Maps from PR.7x
Yeah it has evolved beyond these maps, back in the earlier releases they worked well, and I quite liked them, but the gameplay of new releases mean bigger maps with lots of flanking room is essential, something the vanilla maps don't have.
By all means make them if you want them though. I don't get why people think Rhinos been arsey with them, seems to be being quite supportive to me.

Re: Vanilla Maps from PR.7x
Was there a poll/discussion on removing them? I don't remember one (I haven't searched though) so if there wasn't, then you can't call people 'strange' for wanting back what they didn't ask to be removed in the first place!hx.bjoffe wrote:They're finally gone from the server map rotation, and 1/3 of the community wants them back.

Re: Vanilla Maps from PR.7x
I didn't like them, even expressed my opinions about them should be removed, and felt inner joy when they finally were.
Audited vMaps were ok in earlier releases (eg. i liked mashtuur nights in 0.4 except the buggy shaders for some), but > ~0.6 they never fit the picture in my opinion.
Strange = different (from me). Wasn't trying to call you names, please don't get offended.

Re: Vanilla Maps from PR.7x
Lol no offence was taken! I'm just saying that if people didn't ask for them to be removed, you can't blame them when they ask for them back
Personally, I'm all for choice. If the maps came back nobody's forcing servers to run with them, or players to play them. PR has evolved a great deal recently, but personally I think there's still some life in maps such as Zatar.

I was wondering why Zatar was never in server rotations these days.
Such an amazingly cool map - why was it removed?

Doesn't any1 agree that the BF2-SF maps were better than vBF2? they had more enterables than vBF2, and were far more detailed imo -> like the DICE mappers had actually learned something
I'm never clear what we can use from the exp packs/booster packs, could a BF2-SF/other map be integrated in to PR or would it have legal implications aside from the debate on whether or not they were any good?

I believe they can use SF stuff, after all they are using the Grappling Hook, only map I ever played on SF though was an Airport map with a aerial spawn, it was fun, sort of, though PR is more grunt work, until the expansion pack: Project Reality: Special Forces comes along.Dr2B Rudd wrote:Doesn't any1 agree that the BF2-SF maps were better than vBF2? they had more enterables than vBF2, and were far more detailed imo -> like the DICE mappers had actually learned something

Re: Vanilla Maps from PR.7x
SF maps in particular that might actually be good for PR are, Devil's Perch, warlord (maybe...). the one with the 2 american submarines
the submarine one and devils perch are pretty good because they felt bigger than they were, they weren't linear, and they were night maps with enterables.

Re: Vanilla Maps from PR.7x
Yes i want a mappack but i want changes on the maps. no cheap 1 to 1 copy what we had the last versions.
For example we had Daqin Oilfields in the last versions but it wasnt a nice map. We still had this little airfields on each side, but why? Why wrent they removed? They were useless because the map was just to small for pr jets.
An other critism was that we had in the east and the west big areas which nothing in. Why didnt we move the two flags more to the east/west and placed some nice statis around.

Re: Vanilla Maps from PR.7x
PR game play has far outgrown any vanilla map, good riddance to any and all vanilla maps.

Zatar was ok.
Oman was a horrible map since EA made it and it didnt fit in PR imo
the only vBF2 maps Id want to see in PR are an extanded version of Mastuur City and maybe an extended version of jalalabad (more city for both those maps would be cool, flag's spread out more would prolly work for the current PR version)

Re: Vanilla Maps from PR.7x
Definatley some vanilla maps as they are so much better in PR. I don't get why most people vote no, because when the current maps have been played a few more months there'll be lots of whining about more maps.
