Tank Reverse

Post by Sadist_Cain »

Now I'm not sure about other armies tanks but one thing I remember (and Im sure many of the Devs do) from our LAN weekend at Bovington was when we're being shown the Scimitar and CR" one sentance that caught my ears

"We can go as fast backwards as we can forwards"

Need I say more?

is a tankers living hell, you get into position to fire a shot and you're spotted, options? A. Slowly dawdle backwards whilest the smoke slowly gathers *BANG!!!*

B. Hard reverse, smoke and the enemy can't see where you're turning, act all sneaker and creepy and then... *BANG!* a Frogfoot or summit nails you :P

if we can reverse at the speed real tanks can then using smoke wouldn't be so much like trying to piss up a waterfall

yes, this has been a bug that has been bugging me for ages, think in PR v0.7 Sofad did a load of tweaks to the tanks to try and get "realistic acceleration" for them, instead the main thing he archived as only to make them move really, really slow unless you drived down a runway for 10mins in a strait line you could only pick up some speed but as we saw at bovy, they do accelerate very fast. anyways before .7's release it was a joint desision to remove this from the tanks cos it was going to be so bad on the gameplay, thou the reverse speed was not fixed as there was just no time, and something we have been meaning to fix since but just have not got round to it. Put it this way, your tank would be going as fast forwards as it is going backwards now if we did not fix it :p

Ohh that's sloooooow...

Would be nice to see tanks moving full pelt backwards...would make for a better 'tactical retreat' ("Arrrrrgh! Run away!") when you're not exposing your arse to the person firing ATs at you.

would be nice to see it ingame. the backwards speed of the tanks is a joke right now... The inf sprint faster then a backward driveing tank :-)

But its under work right now if i get the tread right.

I dont think so @bsurd. They implemented it in the testing for .7 but removed it because it would ruin the gameplay.

i agree with this 110% , recently ive been having some recon fun on fools road with scimitar and seems 90% of the time im taken out because i couldn't reverse fast enough behind cover which i purposely positioned myself behind when observing/ambushing

Cyberzomby, i think your wrong and Absurd right.
they tried fixing it for 0.7 but didn´t get it right so they took it out but didn´t have time to fix reverse.

I was watching Top Ten Tanks, or something along those lines, the other night. And when it came to the Abrams the interviewee said it can top out at around 42 MPH without breaking down due to overheating (it wasn't overheating, but close to it). And then he said in reverse an Abrams can go about 24 MPH....

Our CR2 can go as fast backwards as it can forwards ;)

The CR2 in general is much faster than the abrams. If IRC its infact the fatest MBT currently in mass service.

The MoD's own website and Jane's Armour and Artillery list the C2's max road speed as 59 kph (36.88 mph). JAA lists the M1A2 maximum road speed at 67.6 kph (42.25 mph).

E-flags and pee-pees will now be stowed or this thread will be locked.

Well do you really think that it's fair that one tank can go the same speed forwards and backwards but the other can't?

Nope. Is it fair that one vehicle can go faster forwards than another or is amphibious and the other not? Nope. But that's what they can do. And if we can implement it that way in the game, that's how it will be.

Just putting forth my opinion, but if that's the case then you may as well throw balance out the door. I'm aware you are focused on making the game realistic, but you can't completely replace realism for balance.

Of course you can

Anyhow since when did the US and UK armies fight each other :S

I would say where balance would be an issue is with unrealistic tools equipped for an army

E.g. Qwai I'm sure if the US army knew the PLA had tanks and heavily armoured APCs they're get something more effective for anti tank use than two Hummers... Although with teamwork those things are epic...

Yea,currently the fastest MBT,I'm near positive is the Leopard 2..Correct Me If I'm wrong..

The Abrams can go faster than 42mph,but if it does,it's known to melt it's tracks/cause them to detach or break..But yea,why are we comparing lol..They're all awesome.

Hope it gets sorted out/fixed though, thanks for explanation Rhino.

Don't turn this into a "My country can totally kick your country's ***" thread, especially without sources. It's against forum rules and it's annoying to wade through post after post of mindless fanboys talking about things they don't understand. Sure, some people will, but they'll just attract the ones who don't.

When I made that post a like 2 posts up, I wasn't talking about the Abrams anymore, I was talking about the T-72 vs the Challenger.

Ah it doesn't matter anyways.
