1p sound inside helicopter.

Post by arjan »

Ever been in a helo and you couldnt hear squadmates over voip due to the rotor noise?

I would like to suggest the following:

A more muzzled noise with a low beeep inside the helo,
if you know what i mean.

YouTube - Inside A U.S. Army Black Hawk Helicopter Over Iraq
46 seconds.

Sound would be lower than outside, and you could hear youre squad mates easier.
And its realistic.

you mean you want us to tweak the 1p chopper sound vol or do you want us to tweak the VOIP some how when VOIP is active the chopper sound goes quiet?

1p thing ;)
I dont know much about coding and such.
But i didnt mean to change voip itself. :)

a chinook for example from away it has a realy, realy low noise of the rotors, but inside its realy high if you compare to the outside, and you could talk to eachother easier. :)

Or you could do what I do and turn down all 3 main audio settings to 30% and leaving VOIP at 100%.
Makes talking in and around loud vehicles much easier.

It can be coded so that outside sounds are obstructed more (like we did for tanks). Will look into it for a future release...

If you were talking on the radio inside a helicopter, wouldn't you be wearing a proper headset anyway? At least if you were part of the crew...

haha, yeah ofcourse ;)
The passengers arent for example.

But my idea solves the communication problems you sometimes have, atleast i think so! :)
And sometimes its not only the choppers that has it, but CAS aircraft too.

The sound obstruction can be tweaked for every single seat. So we can make the crew have more than the passengers. This is done on Tanks already, we have the driver/commander and gunner positions have heavy obstruction due to the fact they're inside the thing and have noise cancelling headsets. You'll notice that the cupola gunner has slightly less sound obstruction, he's still wearing a headset but he's outside.

well pilots sometimes have trouble to hear the commander or board gunner too.
So i think it should be the same for both of em (passenger and crew members).

What about sitting in trucks? I can´t hear a word of what squad or squadleader is saying.Could you lower the noise or would that be to unrealistic?

Trucks are a little too loud at the moment, I'll admit that...hehe. That's more just that the volume of the engine needs to be lowered as opposed to any sound obstruction tweaks.

I find in general that the in game VoIP is it a really weak level compared to everything else, not quite sure why this is the case, even people with pretty reasonable mic signals don't come through very well.

I used a pretty simple solution to get it to compete with everything; just crank the VoIP level on full in the sound options, and then turn everything else down and simply turn up your PCs sound system to compensate. This has made comms ALOT easier to understand for me, especially on continental Euro servers where some of the guys don't speak great English (I don't make them of course, just when they join my squad :p ).

In future it'd be nice if the VoIP level could be bumped up by a few dB to make up for it so you don't have to run your speakers with a lower signal to noise ratio, but only sound geeks like me really care about stuff like that...
