[Statics] European Walls/Fences [WIP]

Post by EOD_Security-2252 »

Well the apartment's going well, but it is also being a pain sometimes so I figured I get some easier work done. The Russian commnuity said it'd be nice to have some walls or fences, so here it is, but everybody could use them really.
So far, I've made a destroyable concrete wall in three variants and I've made a short wooden fence with pointed wood planks.
Image
In the front center is the general destroyed version of all three walls. In the back center is the standard wall, right side is the wall with graffiti and left side is the wall with a brick missing from the middle of it. When destroyed, the hole's big enough to drive a Miltia tank through (assuming the collision of the Militia tank fits the actual model to the nearest 1/2 meter).
Image
Image
Here's the fence, it's not destroyable and it's about 1/3 the height of the cement wall. The cement wall is taller than a typical village building from Basrah by a little bit.

Comments, suggestions?

I'm actually only using PR textures on these (except the graffiti part, but that's just a modified version of a PR texture), but I could change the texture on the fence. I kind of felt like the fence didn't look good as well, but I couldn't really tell what it was.

[CG Textures] - The worlds largest free texture site
here you get a lot to work with my tip first try to find a color-> brown.
then give it a noise with a very light brown
after that take blur or some other tool which can blur
after that you can make a new layer and over lay the selfmade color with the texture(here a wood texture and than you have a beautifull texture.
thats the way i do. you only have first fool a bit around with the program. i use gimp or pain.net both are very good but i think paint.net makes the better selfmade color cause the effects work a bit better. but you have to find it out for yourself

boards are too wide IMO.. far too wide in fact...make them thinner and put some space between them.. the tops are pointed which would be typical of picket fences which arent typically side to side tight.. :)

the walls isnt too bad but I would introduce a crack and or chips somewhere along the length.. as well as a few stains..

good starts but you could go alot farther.. please PM me if you need some ideas... i could probably give you some modelling pointers as you seem keen..

the walls at the moment is too clean and to linear.. needs to be messed up...

hey.. you should import my cement walls from PR (the cinder block ones in the cools road little town) and have a look at those meshes.. they are very close to what you are doing there...

keep up the enthusiastic work !!! :)

The destroyed wall should have at least 3 or 4 bricks lying around, like the last wall. Otherwise it looks like the wall just turned into some liquid... stuff.

This video tutorial may help you get a better understanding for using layers in 3dsm to get more detail:

Thanks guys. I was actually going to make a picket fence after the other wooden fence, but whatever you say Iron.
Also, basically the idea is don't make the wall out of less than 10 boxes, make like each box so I'm actually building it so I can put little improfections in the walls?

try to think in groups of objects as welll...

here is an example of a group of objects I did for creating bunkers.. they all match on centers and can quickly snap together for a very complicated bunker...

Image

So...in the case of a wall...maybe a set like the following

wall x 20m
wall x 10m
wall post
wall gate
2nd unique wall gate
wall x 10m cracked
wall x 10m smashed
wall x 10m leaning..

a set like that would be very useful for a whole whack of things..

Perhaps a "Revolutionary Communist Party" graffiti on the wall ?

I don't know about Europe but here in canada there is almost more of those than the Anarchy A.

In Germany and Austria I saw a fair amount of anarchy signs graffitied around (I don't recall too much in Switz.), especially near the trains. I've never been to Eastern Europe so I can't say much in the way of that. I looked on google for Russian graffiti, but the results were poor at best. The only other type of graffiti I saw in Europe was graffiti that said stuff along the lines of "F**k America" and "F**k the Nazis," and I can't spraypaint that on a wall in PR now can I?
I also saw an anarchist rally in Germany too. I think I was in like Stuggart or somewhere near there when G8 was going on. It was crazy the amount of anarchist and anti-US graffiti and propaganda. But hey, I got see some pretty sweet Polizei in riot gear, so it all works out, and I don't really like politicians at all, but that's a different topic (I also happened to be in Berlin train station when some German politician was arriving or leaving, damn Polizei blocked all the doors off).

Those are pretty stylish, the ones I see around where I live (in canada) are mostly just "PCR *badly made hammer-and-sickle*"

But now that I think about it, I doubt that they have a lot of communist graffiti in Germany ?

lol... Those graffitis are from the Partido Comunista Revolucionario... You can find them all over the country XD
I once chew them out publicly in my university 'coz they were distributing some papers talking "miracles" about Stalin  Most funny thing is that you can find them sometimes using their cellphones, I-pods and drinking Coca-Cola... talking about sending "Mixed" messages  But well... that's just here in San Juan.

In Europe I don't know really how much of Communist, Anarchist or neo-Nazi (¿?) graffitis are. I think one would find a more artistical kind of graffiti rather than political but that would be asking to much ;)

Maybe those walls could use other details rather than pure graffiti... For example.. Posters... Propaganda? Hehehe... If I had the time I'd make some russian propaganda posters saying "We shall destroy the american imperialists" or something like that. You know... the typical nationalistic or pseudo-communist propaganda ;) May be you can add some real propaganda posters from the Cold war period. Pictures of them they're surelly on the internet. Although... Not likely that such posters would actually be used nowadays ^^; but who will stare at it in the middle of a combat? :D

Hey I'm fairly sick and busy, and I'm going to be pretty messed up after tonight because I'm going in for some dental and they're gonna pump me up (damn barbituates).
Anyway, I just wanted to clarify with the texture, but I'm still thinking of redoing some model work for it (BTW, changed graffiti):
Image
Also, I'm meaning for the wall to be post-USSR with post-USSR graffiti, not communist propoganda.
