CQB - single shot or full auto ?

Post by bravoss »

What are you thoughts on this, which fire mode is better for close quarters battle? At first for me it was easier to use full auto since I totally sucked(not that I don't suck now) in shooting without the sights, so faster rate of fire saved me a couple of times. Now I'm starting to think it might be better to use the single shot mode... Thanks.

Sure, anything that gets more lead downrange.

I think the question should be at what ranges should you switch from fully automatic to short bursts and then to single shots.

In suppressing, use single shot. Shooting multiple times in succession does not give the enemy any more severe or lengthened suppression effect.

In close quarters, such as room clearing or moving through narrow streets and going around corners, automatic.

Engaging the enemy to kill at ranges equal to or longer than 20 meters, semi-automatic.

Guidelines. Automatic firing short bursts at 20-60 meters is sometimes effective.

If you are trying to take out a FAV that is assaulting your squad, automatic, firing in bursts. FAVs can be killed with fewer than 60 5.56mm NATO rounds. An entire squad shooting at a FAV can do serious damage quickly.

I always leave me gun on full auto and just fire as many shots as I need to; the exception to this is the US weapons where I leave it on semi most of the time but switch to burst when I expect to be up close and personal.

If our squad is caught in the open, I'll just switch to full auto and unload a clip in the enemy's direction; chances are, I'll get shot before I ever run out of ammo.

with the QBZ or L85 i put on full auto as soon as they are within 100m, G3 and m16 i only use at under 20m, i never use the G3 in full auto whilst scoped. i find rnning at them whilst firing from the hit works best.

I use full auto in CQB situations unless I'm toting the AK. I may just be unlucky, but I can't hit a damn thing with it when I shoot from the hip. This is especially true if I'm trying to get to cover at the same time. I'm talking extremely about short ranges too, like 5m.

Thanks for help. Well, I also mostly use it on full auto in CQB unless they really surprise me and my rifle is set to single shot.

Wow I didn't know that there is such a big difference in recoil between L85 and M16, G3...

In open terrain I keep on single shot, Kashan and on the outskirts of Basrah are good examples of what I consider open terrain, but going into any kind of broken or ambush potential areas I switch to the "fill the air with the most bullets" setting on each gun respectively.

if the weapon has a full-auto setting, i always keep it on full-auto, but i just fire one shot at a time. that way i have more options. with US weapons, i leave them on semi-auto about 80% of the time, but when i go into built-up areas or jungles i go burst.

Keeping it on full auto and controlling the fire by yourself is good if you can do it reliably. I tried it and what often happens is that I fire more than one round, and I also have to concentrate on keeping the fire button pressed for as short time as possible, so for me it's easier to keep it at single shot for longer ranges so you don't have to worry about that. Altough I guess, with time you develop the skill on shooting singles on full auto and don't even have to think about controlling the button press.

Given the changes in .8, full auto with manual control. In .75 you could fire in SA as fast as you could click, which was good. Now your soldier seems to load each round by hand in the time between shots.

i usually have auto on, even for ranged targets. i can control my finger and put single rounds down range  i'm just used to it from the l85 pwnage days in vanilla.

Personally. I tend to use semi-auto almost all the time unless i am in a very close combat situation indeed, and you have to act very quickly to take out a group of enemies close to one another.

I wonder how many people actually could tell someone else how many rounds are in their magazine at any moment. :)

A related question to round usage and CQB. How viable is the "double tap" in PR, rather than aiming straight for the head?
Personally i think it is viable, as an injured soldier would go down from the body shots most of the time.

I tend to keep my weapon at semi even at closer ranges. I generally find it easier to use than auto, as it makes the weapon easier to control and aim, and still kills people in about the same time that you could kill them with a well-placed burst, unless they're close enough that you can smell their breath (in which case they usually end up pronediving which is when semi combined with increased mobility can still win).

I use full-auto when engaging unarmored vehicles (technicals) or getting trigger-happy with suppressive fire.

As to headshots and double tapping, I generally put as much lead out as is needed to bring someone down. Soldiers in PR are reasonably able to shoot back until the moment they go down, which is why it's generally a good idea to eliminate someone completely before moving on to another target. Plus, headshots are generally difficult enough to pull off at extremely close ranges when you are often unable to use sights.

mmm, odd tactic lol

I usually go Single/semi-automatic at mid-long range because it give MUCH better precision. Burst/auto only at very close range (room clearing, streets, etc.) This is usually when I am too close to use scope.

An other important point is to not run out of ammo during a firefight... Better to reload at mid ammo then to run out during a battle. In doubt, reload!

I have only been playing PR for about 5 days now and I don’t recall ever killing something in single-shot.; which is unusual, because in BF2 I always used single shot. My strategy is to aim at the feet in full auto and to fire a quick burst until I’m aimed over they’re head then immediately drop down to about their hip and fire another burst. That combo usually will take someone down before they know what’s going on. Of course that only works if you have the element of surprise at ranges under about 50m-60m.

If I need to suppress or am suppressed myself I just start unloading a clip in the general direction of the enemy, and keep firing till I’m dead or use about 2-3 clips depending on how many I have. It works I think to slightly disorient and confuse them.
