Re: Ballistcs or Tracers?
Tracers aren't necessarily to see where you're firing - they're to help see where your teammate's shots and where hostile shots are coming from.

Re: Ballistcs or Tracers?
I wish I could change my vote from "Keep the bug" to "All or nothing."
After seeing the video on vimeo with the "all or nothing" ammo, it isn't so bad. If the tracers were smaller, then I would be fine.
My basic setup:
Nothing
Snipers
DM Rifles
Pistols
Ironsight rifles
Personal Defence Weapons (save M4 w/ AimPoint)
Insurgent weapons
All
Automatic Rifleman
7.62 Coaxial Weapons
Main battle rifles with optics
Tank shells/AA shells/GAU-8/Air Superiority fighter cannons
Keep tracer bug
.50 cal weapons - Zero drop anyways, so it doesn't matter.
7.62 on the British landy
5.56 on the Chinese FAV
5.56 Static MGs

By the time I've found where that guy is shooting me from on Korengal, I'm already did. I find audios to the best for finding enemies.[R-DEV]Masaq wrote:Tracers aren't necessarily to see where you're firing - they're to help see where your teammate's shots and where hostile shots are coming from.

Re: Ballistcs or Tracers?
And just to add a taste to what Psykogundam was saying.
There is an "optical illusion" that sometimes happens when bullets are fired at you or at least very close to your area. Sometimes tracers round can be seen coming at you from a distance. This is modeled somewhat ok in game. Usually it's when a freakin tank opens fire with the coax gun in your direction
When you first see it, it "seems" to be moving slowly, but as it gets closer to you it "seems" to pickup speed till finally it whizzes by your head SOOOO fast you begin to wonder if you truly ever saw it at all. It seems somewhat surreal is the best way I can describe it.
This however does NOT happen with each and every tracer round that comes in your direction, but it can sometimes be seen if the conditions are right. When that happens just thank God that you are still around to tell someone. "Hey I just saw a tracer coming right at me, so they can say, "yeah right, sure you did".
No one seems to be really certain how this illusion happens the way it does, but it does.
Anywho, with that said. The only ones that can "normally" see your tracers are the ones NOT in the area getting fired upon. Usually they are the only ones with a chance to flank and attack you, so quit complaining about tracers giving away your position, because there are soooooo many more things that will give away your position BESIDES a stupid tracer round. The sound of your weapon firing is a dead give a way each and every time! Or how bout the fact that the player models don't blend in with anything in game, and that REAL camouflage is a joke in game.
The best use for tracers is when the machine gunner needs to "walk the rounds" up into the target area, or when someone calls out, "follow my tracers". Tracers are also helpful to let someone know at which target NOT to shoot. RED=NATO, and GREEN=WARSAW PACT. Or for our purposes GREEN=MEC or CHINA
Trust me when I say, it does help reduce friendly fire issues

Re: Ballistcs or Tracers?
its really one of those cases where you want to have your cake and eat it too.
Its a choice between realistic ballistics;a complicated assortment of information for each rifle making each rifle unique and interesting...
or
Flashy lights
besides my FPS like a lot of BF2
R players is low when playing on medium. So i dont care about tracers. I have adapted to harsh deviation and my clan's server giving me 135ping and every other handicap. I dont see why tracers are that nessesary. i still say all or nothing.

Re: Ballistcs or Tracers?
I'm not so sure about the low settings thingy. I just viewed a poll someone posted about the settings most people use while playing PR, and it showed that 61% of those that voted play PR on HIGH settings. I think something like 700 players have already voted.
I used to play on low, but 2 weeks ago I updated my PC, and now I play with everything maxed out on HIGH. I didn't notice any difference in the amount and intensity of the tracers while in game. Funny, that's about the only thing I did not notice a change in when I changed everything to HIGH.

Re: Ballistcs or Tracers?
could someone find a bunch of videos of a 5.56mm tracer, this would allow me to adjust the size of the tracers so it doesnt look like a laser fight.

YouTube - M-16 Tracers at Dusk
YouTube - Shooting: Tracers
YouTube - AR-15 bump fire tracer
YouTube - AR-15 firing tracer round at night
A quick youtube search. I've seen videos on the news of soldiers shooting at long range at night, a few of them tracers, but it is really hard to find them.
EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCsnSr6lqKM
Incredible amount. M16s and M249s firing at night.

i start to have seizures, i find it hard to play then. I will try to make a video showing ballistics and current tracers along with ballistics and tracers that i try to match to look like those posted above.gclark03 wrote:What's wrong with a good laser fight?

Re: Ballistcs or Tracers?
LOL
Yes they "bounce", more like they ricochet fairly easily. Lots of time in RL when you are in prone and your round lands short it will skip into the target anyway. That's why I get so tickled when I see two players in PR go prone and trade shots while the rounds are landing short. They'd both be dead more times than not in RL. I even do it myself in game, and I'm supposed to know better
But hey, it's a game right. I can die 100s of times and still get to work on time the next day
To add to what Reaper posted.
I've never been on a night fire training exercise (and there were a lot), and NOT had to go put out a fire that was started downrange with tracers. Sometimes it would get so big we had to contact Range Control. Not a fun night all. Lot of explaining to do
Ah, what memories

Bump!
This seems to have fallen quite again. Does that mean the issue is resolved

Re: Ballistcs or Tracers?
Is it a bug? Cause tracer bullets and normal bullets are a bit different. There is more "stuff" in a tracer so it will act a bit different than the normal one. More "stuff" more weight.
If there is this kind of thing in the game, it should be like that. At least for me it hasn't give any troubles.
And yes bullets bounces, tracers are just more easier to see

Re: Ballistcs or Tracers?
you know I just thought of something
On MEC vs US maps they'll be alot of bitching cause the G3 with scope will be able to own everything past the spawn menu on the US side

Keeping the tracer bug is the worst option. It means that a certain proportion of shots will always be way off.

If anyone has seen the movie 'Band Of Brothers' the part where the C-47's are dropping 101st over France and the planes are all getting shot down, thats a good picture I think.
