Modification to 3D map markers

Post by waldo_ii »

I searched and found nothing, I looked through the *** thread and found nothing (one reference to markers, but it did not explain it. The link given was dead).

My Suggestion: Modify the 3D Map markers to show the precise location (marker hotspot)

Example (On the left, we have the current system. The exact point of the marker is invisible, indicated approximately by the box. My suggested marker system is on the right, where the hotspot is on the very tip of the marker.

For defense markers, the hotspot would be the bottom of the shield. This would be very useful for tankers, snipers, HAT, or CAS aircraft (so they can all fire at a long distance with precision).

I often find myself trying to hit a small target with precision, like strafing a tank with the A-10/Frogfoot, hitting an APC on the hill with HAT, or indicating to the squad precisely where a soldier is at range (behind what wall, in what building, where that sniper is on that mountain, what bush, etc.). The current marker does not give precision at long ranges. At a few hundred meters, the marker is useless for precision if you do not have a sort of magnification. At long range engagements with vehicles (Tanks on Kufrah/Quinling/Kashan) or giving CAS on Quinling or Kashan, when the target is barely in the view distance, the current system only shows the general area (sometimes with a variation of 50-75 meters).

What do you guys think? Good idea, or not important/is harmful (like my HMMWV suggestion)?

I see your point, and understand the idea. The only opposition I can see is the markers are not suppose to be laser designators. Pin point targeting should only be for Laser dest.

Is it realistic seeing a huge 3 dimensinal marker infront of you?

No. I understand the idea tho, and i have to say i am against it.

Id say try to keep the game as realistic as possible.

If your able to explain to people where things are it wouldnt be a problem, but if they are from another country, and there english is arse, then this would probably help alot. And i actually think you can hit things at long ranges with the spotting 3d markes, just have to think about deviancy.

Well the army is implemting the the future warrior system where each solider has a visor that could give him or her information like the 3d map marker

Your army is cheating! :P

Hehe.

Bu can you seen names over friendlies then? With that visor? Cause PR is trying to be realistic, but seeing peoples names, and huge round green stuff over the SL isnt realistic.

So we can use what you just said about US army in PR?

Not really. That whole Future Warrior system is still in development, AFAIK it's not used on the frontlines yet. According to wiki, the full system is also supposed to have exoskeletons and armor tech that sounds like it came from BF2142.

lol the last time i read about that exo skeleton, its just a bulky metal skeleton that was capable of helping you lift...not that much, no fingers, only a hook. it will definetly not be for combat use, it severly limit's the soldiers maneuverability, as far as i can see it'll be used for storage warehouses and other times where heavy lifting is present and the need for agility isnt.

anywho back on topic i dont agree with the changes in markers, i doubt it would be good for gameplay if you could mark out someones head and have a sniper blow it off from the other side of the map way out of view.

aswell though with the "future soldier" thingy, it's not that far fetched to have a green amrker over or on your friendlies, i eman they managed to make an aircraft's radar mark friendlies as a diamond and enemies as a square

Other than the realism note, does BF2 force the markers height above something or is that easily changed?

With the current inaccuracy of marker placing already, it wont do any good.

xd
but if u mean its unrealistic that we get a precision with a closer Hotspot on the marker.....
why dont remove them?????
or remove the range marker.... and learn range spotting with the binocular (and its easy if u know how(+-50 meters))

the current marker have enoth accuracy and is easy to aim and if u make the changes like written u must thing like a sniper u must turn everytime the marker off before shooting cause the body of the enemy is hidden
