Random Events

Post by AREM117 »

I just got this idea. What if in some of the maps they added random things that can happen. Things like artillery strikes on almost any random position on the map or a massive minefield in a random position. These events would be controlled by neither team so they would benefit no one with the score. This would really keep both teams on their toes not knowing if their position will get hit by a JDAM or a mortar strike.

There are random events like sounds and such. But Random artillery strikes make no sense. I under stand the know one knows whats going on, but its not realistic.

Getting killed randomly by stuff you can't do anything about is not a good dynamic imo.

I don't think a JDAM from God is very realistic.

What about inaccurate area attacks?

heheheheh :D

gives a whole new meaning to "where is your god NOW?"

the only way you can really get randomness ingame imo is for objects like buildings to spawn like caches at the start of the round, being in one of a set number of configurations rather than stuff blowing up for no apparent reason during a round.

Yeah, I agree with the JDAM from God not being realistic, but what about random minefields? It's actually a fine idea, that would bring one team a realistic and tough challenge. I don't know if it is possible, though.

Stuff within natures realm would be kinda cool, like rock slides and stuff like that perhaps in the right situations, but weird military stuff like random ordinance and trees that grow ammo would be a bit silly.

Again, the most practical way to realize this is adding some chance for area attacks to miss their targets by anywhere from a couple meters to a kilometer or more. It isn't uncommon IRL for artillery errors to take out entire squads, is it?

I was thinking something alot more tactical then that. Stuff like rockslides onto a road, as well as potentially harming nearby infantry and vehicles, could perhaps be made to cut off sections of the map to vehicles until perhaps they could be shovelled clear. Can't really think of any other things along the same lines of geographical elements that could be randomised that are reasonable though at the moment. *Deep breath* couldn't think of a way of punctuating that sentence for it to still make sense :p

Wow I just got some great imagery there.

US solider standing over an injured MEC, "Where's your god now?", followed by the tell-tale sound of the bomb dropping through the sky, MEC responds with "Bout three seconds from your face"

The only thing that I'd like to see is randomly generated static wrecks in the middle of streets and back-roads blocking them off on INSURGENCY mode (you know tanker trucks, civilian cars, piles of rubble). It would just keep people from memorizing what streets are clear and which aren't from previous rounds.

Though to be completely honest, I'm not entirely sure this isn't already in-game.

Random minefields could be pretty good IF one of the teams knows about them (someone gotta have placed them), and similiar things.

But, that just screams "Scenario mode".

Like, the defenders having some nice defense... thingies (like the minefields) in one out of 5 locations, randomly chosen before the round starts, but visible on the defenders maps. The attackers wouldnt already know the perfect way to attack then. Just like AAS v3, but with objects.

The idea for random strikes is to give the apperence to both teams that the other team dropped it. Another one i forgot to mention was unexploded ordinance wich would explode when touched by infantry or vehicles. Natural random events is a great idea. Rain, thunderstorms(lightning would give a very short flashbang efffect), sandstorms(suppresion effect and blured vision), rockslides, bridges collapsing, trees falling 8-) , meteors :lol :( not really), flooded roads. Is this even possible though?
