Experimental

Post by Tartantyco »

(Not sure which forum to put this in. Was thinking Inf Tactics, but it's not necessarily limited to inf so I put it here for now.)

-I'm going to be trying out some new squad deployment tactics, going under the squad name "EXPERIMENTAL"(or "EXPERIMENT(A)", can't remember how many letters you can have max.) on various servers. If you'd like to try out something new then jump in(Or set up your own "EXPERIMENTAL" squad and try something new with a squad yourself). I might also name the squad "SCOUT"(Because RECON attracts stupid people).

-My first experiment will be with a Recon Squad, either splitting up into two or spreading the entire squad out over the map. Avoiding contact and gathering intel constantly. I want to see how an increased amount of information affects the team and if that increase of information outweighs the loss of a few frontline soldiers.

-I'll be trying out several other squad types as I go along and give feedback in this thread as to whether they are viable or not.

I can save you some time and tell you that if people actually listen to you, it helps ALOT The two times I've been dedicated Recon and people listed to me, I saved several of our team's tickets just by giving friendlies the heads up.

Two specific instances:

Bi Ming: I have the US sniper kit as chinese and am slowly walking towards mine. As I get close I see a TWO humvee sitting to the side of the entrance, waiting for tanks or APC's or trucks to come through. With a quick check of my map I see we have an entire squad in a Ninjing racing up from Governemnt to mine. I quickly team chat "Squad 3! Go right! TOW Humvee waiting at Mine entrance!!!" Amazingly they actually listened and pull to the right. That gave me time to settle in and take the shot, killing the TOW gunner and clearing the way.

Ghost Train: I'm Chinese Spec-ops with Chinese kit. I've just blown up a FB on the GB side of the river and my team with our APC is taking north Bridge. I'm just rearmed my explosives from the crates when I hear a Warrior comming down the tracks. I quickly run out, plant C4 near a rock right next to the tracks, then run up the hill and hide. I then type "APC SQUAD, ENEMY APC COMMING UP THE TRACKS FROM TUNNEL!" Right as the warrior rolls by I detonate the C4, severely damaging it. It keeps going, running right into the Chinese APC which takes only 3 shots to finish it of, after which they actually thank me.
Everyone wants to easily kill their opponent but nobody wants to be the one easily killed. That line of thinking escalates weaponry to the point where practically every soldier has a shoulder-mounted nuke launcher that when fired, automatically displays the text "pwnt".- [R-CON]Wolfe

You know, I've been experimenting with a Defense only sqaud, anything purple, we go to.

Thread cleaned up (I'm sooo going to get banned for this:rolleyes :)

Well the idea is certainly interesting. The main problem is usually people just don't listen. I've had lots of games where I try to rally people in defending that loenely flag while everyone is charging get stalled and forget that just 2 enemies can start the steam roller the other way.

But your idea is definitely interesting and a good change of pace.
On Kashan a squad I was in was spread out in the moutains and kept the whole team updated on the enemy position and movements as well as lazing them. Proved to be very effective and frustrating for the other side.

Good luck then ;)

-I'm a pretty ruthless SL so I usually don't have an issue keeping my squad in line. Might be a little hard with little prospect of combat, but we'll see. 1 hour 30 minutes until I get off work, then we'll see...

try a squad of engineers that just drives the command trucks and drops crates. too often i see a squad take a truck and just abandon it, when it could be rearmed and used again to provide supplies.

-Just look for my LOGISTICS squad. I've been leading those squad's for a long time. Transport, supplies, construction, vehicle reclamation, defense, etc. It's all in the LOGISTICS squad job description.

Nice idea. Ive been a taxi squad myself a few times as well so I can tell you these types of squads work. Your recon Idea is good but I only hope that you got a commander who can relay it. That will make the effectivnes of the squad a whole lot better! But you probably figured that out yourself as well ;)

Minefields squads are the shiz. A good minefield can really screw with the British on maps like Al Kufrah or Fools Road. Roadblocks can be alright on Fools as well. I've been dieing to try it on Muttrah, but it would be so close to baserape that I'm sort of hesitant to.

I've always wanted to try a real recon squad that has eyes everywhere and a voice in the commander's ear, but I've never found either a commander/SL combo who I thought could use the information properly, or a squad that I thought would want do it.

-Anywhere between 18:00 and 24:00 GMT +1.

-I didn't have time yesterday so I just drove around with a Mobile Infantry squad on Barracuda for a while. Mounted on three Dune Buggies, taking out choppers and firebases all over the map. Will try to get a scout squad up today.

Which servers do you hang on? This actually sounds interesting, I always like squads with specific alternative roles

I also have done this idea a lot, I usually run a Recon or Forward Ops squad, join me on TexasTeamPlayers server after 3 pm eastern time. Almost 7 days a week.

-I just bought Fallout 3 so I'm addicted to that for the moment. I'll be on this Saturday, going PR all day. I'll try to stay on the 10th or Thor's Brigade servers, look for the EXPERIMENT squad.
