You must be an RTS fan Wah.....
Staring at the same screen for 2 hours, occasionally barking out orders that may or may not be listened to.....
I'd rather do my college homework than play as a CO in PR....dead serious on that one.

Seriously, bring back the old "you have to get commanders build-oders before you can set up a FB"! When there is real need for a commander, when the team can't win without him (that's not the case right now), we will see more commanders and more teamplay. And right now few SLs have any real respect for commanders. Since 0.8 he's just some stupid guy sitting back in the main and shouting stuff to you. You don't have to get his permission for building you firebases, so why even bother listening to him?
Not to mention that there will be a way to stop the nutheads that place random FBs in the middle of nowhere...

Random have you ever commanded in PR. Your here to just say that PR commanding is boring, get a life damn. Some people really enjoy commanding, me for example.

Wrong! If you have a Commander, you have to get his permissions. you can only build without permission if there is NO commander.STORM-Mama wrote:Seriously, bring back the old "you have to get commanders build-oders before you can set up a FB"! Most of the time, no one wants to command anyway. Most people consider it to be the most boring, tedious job in PR. You just sit in the compost, place a marker every now and then, answer build requests, and bark orders at squad leaders, which most will ignore. Most games I play (public servers), all the strategy and planning is done at the squad level with the commander just being some guy who sits in the base and tries to tell you what to do.

Try to organise your tanks so they stick together --> Fail.
Try to organise a chopper lift for a squad so they can be somewhere useful --> Fail - they were in contact with the enemy and didn't tell you.
Try to make effective use of a two man Sniper/Spec Ops squad called "RECON" --> Fail - they're too busy shooting at things from a ridgeline.
Organise a lift for the RECON squad back to their ridgeline with a co-operative transport squad --> Succeed.
Try to call a mortar strike --> Fail - everyone has bigger things on their plates
Break down language barriers between you and the un-named, unresponsive, presumably Russian squad --> Fail - no qualifications in Russian.
Draw smily faces on the map in contact markers --> Succeed.
Redistribute forces around the map in an efficient manner --> Succeed (sometimes).
Think about ways to improve the post --> Succeed (Take it to the forums --> Fail)

if there is anything I've learned in St John Ambulance (and I have learned Tonnes) there are few things more important than telling control where you are and what you are doing!
really, if the commander is sitting there bored, its cuz his squads are not fulfilling their side of the bargain.

Re: Things you can do while commanding in 0.8 :D
at the command post you can "listen" the map
for example somebody tells you "enemy tank somewhere D5 or D6", click & zoom the map at that grid and you will hear them and find their exact position. you can also hear shots and shouts of infantry
PS sry for my English

I drink my tea, and answer a few questions here and there, give the overall strategy, and then give them build orders when they need it.
However, I agree with rudd, watching Voyager is much fun while nothing is going on

Re: Things you can do while commanding in 0.8 :D
Squadleaders generally don't talk to the commander unless the commander talks to them first. You need to go and inquire about their situation before they tell you, and follow that with impossible requests that they expect you to fulfill. Of course, constantly talking at SLs has its own issues - they wanna talk to their squad and you're interrupting them.
I actually thought about following some radio procedures when talking to SLs, but then I feel that saying "out" over PR voip would make me look like a jerk.

If I've got good SLs, I command. If I have sucky squad leaders I put PR into windowed mode, bring up COH in windowed mode and play both.
