2 cents from a marine

Post by peckens »

The first thing that has always been a peeve of mine is the HMMWV horn. Believe it or not that gay and retarted horn from Vanilla bf2 is exactly what it sounds like in real life.

The second thing is reloading the M4 and M16 is WAY to slow the animation is awesome but it is just too slow. IRL when i retain a magazine (tactical reload) by putting it back in my magazine pouch i am still faster by at least 5 seconds.

Yea, animations are being changed, and there is a thread about that in the Dev Journal (too lazy to post a link now), with a video of the new animations. Still quite long, but thats for gameplay, too.

And sadly a difference between "tactical reloads" and "dry reloads" or however you call it are not possible with the engine, as there can only be one reload animation per weapon. So the full animation has been chosen.

Don't think it matters as they put the mag in the pouch all the time

no but with tactical you dont have to release working parts forward (and maybe with m16 use that forward assist button, dunno never used one)

THough I don't think thats what the OP is talking about, two anims, I think hes just saying in general the animation is too slow. Gameplay yeesh sometimes you can have too much of it

Yes, that was what i was refering to lol. The animation is correct for the most part. When u fire off an entire magazine (on an m16 or m4) the bolt will lock its self to the rear so all u need to do is slap the bolt release on the side of the rifle and you are ready to fire. Tapping the forward assist, like in the animation, is only needed if you are loading an unloaded rifle. Actually, "reloading" an m16 is exactly the same thing as a pistol because they fire from a closed bolt. Next time i get my weapon i will try to get a video of what it looks like, but ill bet ill find one on youtube lol.

BTW if you need pictures of gear like flak jackets, vehicles, etc. let me know. i just cant get u tanks and planes lol.

Our animator Chuc has done a new AR-15 reload animation. Basically it's exactly what you see in that video with a forward assist at the end.

welcome to the forums :)

understand that although you might be one of the faster reloaders in your unit, PR is not simulating elite troops, its simulating average joe grunt.

Also keep in mind that reload times in BF2 are not changeable, its a one size fits all, so we CANNOT factor in all the various things that would normally effect reload times:

- stamina / out of breath
- prone reloading
- walking / running while reloading
- weather conditions while reloading
- side strafing while reloading
- climbing up gradients while reloading
- being injured and reloading
- etc

So next time you get a chance, make a video of yourself demonstrating LIVE reloads (with live or blank rounds) in the typical way you would be in PR (most reloads in PR happen while the player is running, walking up hills, strafing, moving while prone, etc. Its very rare to have a player reload in the ideal position IRL).

I think its safe to say that in these kinds of conditions, your reload speeds will be no where close to a reload speed in ideal setting (crouched supported or standing with mag pouch open).

We practice reloading on the move all the time. Reloading in the prone doesnt take any longer than standing and IRL it wouldnt be bright to reload while climbing lol. But i understand that reload times cant be changed

Is no-one else slightly disturbed by the guy posting videos of himself in his vest and boxers with his AR-15 for his firearms instruction website?

But no Marine is average.

Keep the reload time slow for the Army if you want, cause you know, it's the Army. :p

You are correct... there is nothing "average" about short bus riders :)

It's starting to get really deep in here now ;)

Thank you very much but I can reload my weapon just as fast as anyone.

I think the reload times are on the right track just need tweaking. Right now might be a little too slow, but they improve overall game play which it what its all about.
