6 man humvee

Post by viper759 »

i know this has been brought up before and i have a solution on getting a model, ill expand on that at the end though.

this is all just my opinion below.

all too often you jeeps are horded as weapon platforms. sometimes squads will make 3 firebases in useless places so they have 3 jeeps they can run around gunning with. id like to see 2 humvees used. an armed 5 man and an unarmed 6 man. with other factions get an equivalent. imagine on mutrah city the vodnick being used to transport troops? most often when a squad mate sees a jeep i hear, hey drive for me, ill gun. i would love to see these vehicles used for transportation and not just uber infantry killers.

now as to how to attain the models. i see 2 ways, ask another mod or get some donations to buy one. if i can get dev input the on what model needs to be bought i imagine the group of guys i play with will buy it unless its just an insane cost (150 or something like that).

buying a model? i'd think the devs would much rather model their own, correct me if i'm wrong.

i agree on your point though, it would be nice to see less OMG where the hell are you going, the rest of the squad isnt in yet, situations

What is your point here? Are you annoyed at players not thinking about the rest of the squad and not using said vehicles as transport or are you still craving that 6th seat, just so a full squad can fit in?

I don't think the issue was obtaining a model with 6 seats, it's a realism issue.

You forgot the third way, Use the one that [R-DEV]Cheeseman has made...

I don't know if the USI team have an M998 unarmed variant that can carry more than two though. [edit] oh.. wait...Image

Bought from where? You've lost me here... $150 is bugger all, again, you've lost me.

This guy I'm about to quote seems to know what he's talking about. This thread shall not be used as another debate as to whether a 6th seat should be included though.

The only Humvee I know of that has a higher capacity is the medievac version, witch has a driver, TC, medic and room for 4 litter urgent casualties or 8 ambulatory casualties.

You have severely pissed of an ill man.

:p

But really, players are hardcoded sadly, so we can't make them do anything, if they want to take a humvee into the middle of Ramiel with one gunner, we can't stop them. Even with an unmanned version, I'm sure you wouldn't get people thinking, oh wait, I could tranpost people. It would be 'quick i need to get towards the enemy as fast as possible, HUMVEE AWAAAAY!' or something similar.

However, Humvees and Light transports(excluding Landys which should be used in the Fire Support role) are often used well, whenever there are some, in Ramiel say, I get my Driver and gunner covering the other 4 as we move up the street, it works well and is very good seeing us walking up a street covered by a .50, but I think this is more of an issue of people misusing assets rather than a model issue or something.

thought they had a humvee version (non 50 cal) that did seat six, my bad. main reason behind is the whole 'all the jeeps are my squads weapon platforms!' mentality.

right now for most squads its more combat effective to drive them around as gun platforms than to use as transportation.

What about more unarmed HMMWVS?

It's silly to be on Ramiel and have to hoof it for 15 minutes to get into the city once your RP is down.

I'd like to see a transport HMMWV along the lines of the transport helos--fast respawn, low armor, no real protection, just a straight up transport.

Uh, Humvees ARE weapon platforms. They have a big friggin 50 cal on top for shooting stuff with. You can roll up to a flag, disembark the dismounts and use the 50 cal to provide fire support. I don't see much wrong with that.

I wish Humvees were used more, to be honest. Nowadays, most SLs are obsessed about firebases, so everyone takes trucks everywhere, even when venturing into hostile territory. Humvees sometimes end up being used like APCs should be used, or in escort duties for the fleet of assault trucks. APCs end up being autocannon platforms, with people operating them forgetting that they even HAVE space in the back for infantry.

So yeah, if you want unarmed transports, you already have trucks used aplenty.

This.

The issue of everyone using light transport[HMMWVS] over APCs for transport in a severely dangerous environment[full on battle between two technologically advanced armies] has come up before. Hopefully we can come up with a good solution because I agree with some of this.

I would like to see less humvee[armed or unarmed] use as transport straight into the fight and using them more as platforms for sustaining heavy fire, patrol, bunker defense, etc. And more APCs doing transpo/support work with inf squads instead of just being out on their own raping ;)

Needs work, yeah, but it'll get there :)

i see no issue with that, but all to often you get 6 people using 3 jeeps, there is no disembark because their ENTIRE SQUAD is either driving or gunning. while other squads are walking due to the delay in truck respawns.

As Scot has just pointed out and many people have said before... Players are hardcoded. There's not much we can do about this.

As Aurel points out, HMMWVs don't run around with less than 5 people in reality. If it was coded so that you couldn't drive your vehicle until it was fully manned, there'd be more threads moaning about that than there is currently threads on about what you've mentioned. If you get what I mean?

giving it variations would do alot to solve it when the squad of death on wheels sees there are 3 unarmed jeeps and 1 armed jeep they'll take the armed one and leave the rest of the team tranportation too.

In short.... 6-man uparmoured, M2-armed hummvvs don't exist and therefore will almost certainly never be in PR again - whether made ourselves, tweaked from existing model or bought.
