3D Sights for Sniper
Searched terms: 3d sniper ironsight sight
As all scoped weapons are soon to be the only ones that us a 2D texture overlay a thought occurred to me that there must be a way to change this.
I'm not talking about scopes like Insurgency where only a certain part is zoomed, AFAIK that is hardcoded. However how about have the rifle brought RIGHT UP to the 1p eye so that the one bit visible is the rim of the actual sight and what is in your reticule and then apply the zoom to that? (I don't know if it is possible to give a zoom multiplier to non-2D sights but I hope it's possible.)
The point of this is that 3D sights look ALLOT nicer than 2D sights.
What are peoples views, is this just a waste of the animators time and effort, would it be to hard to get the zeroing right or would it be nice to have an arsenal of fully 3D sighted weapons?

all snipers and scopes are 3D and have been since vBF2... There is no other way to do them effectively over than 3D.

What do you mean by 3D. I assumed they were 2D as it was a texture overlay set over a zoomed view.
I meant 3D as in what the new aimpoint scopes will be, but have the scope right up to your face and then zoom it.
EDIT: Don't worry, I get what you mean, just looked like a texture due to my low settings.

Re: 3D Sights for Sniper
Maybe you mean like the actual sight is see through when not scoped in, and you just bring it up and have the zoom go through that?
Not sure if thats possible how youd like, I guess it MIGHT be able to be like the aimpoint that is in the latest public video[Chucs animations DEV journal]. You can see through it, and then you bring it up to your eyes and see through it still. But with scopes, just have it the same, but once it gets to your eye the zoom occurs...
But itd probably look weird... and in the end would basically be what we have now, except for the being able to see through it slightly when not scoped in
In then end, they are 3d now and I dont think doing it the "other" 3d way similar to the aimpoint would really be worth it.. idk though

Would be cool having it so you can see through it when not looking down the sights, however I guess that with the angle you look down at the sight, not enough refraction would occur for you to see down the sight anyway.

True, so just another reason why the current way is probably "better"[R-COM]VoXiNaTiOn wrote:Would be cool having it so you can see through it when not looking down the sights, however I guess that with the angle you look down at the sight, not enough refraction would occur for you to see down the sight anyway.

^^b
Exactly. Also we can't edit the VBF2 models that do have scopes, otherwise it would be a nightmare in consistency.
