Man up and lead a squad
Seriously, i see so few people who actually want to lead. You know the routine, you join a squad and then the "squad leader shuffle" starts. everyone proceeds to leave and return to the squad just so they dont have to be leader and eventually you end up being leader which you relunctantly do because you know thats the only way the squad is gonna see any action. Take a chance people, i know many of you dont want to lead because you think you are no good at it, and it is somewhat of a high pressure job, but you wont get good at it unless you do it. just keep in mind the basics, keep a rally down in a good spot at all times, maintain squad cohesiveness {dont be afraid to kick morons and/or people without mics nothing destroys a squad faster} build assets, and if there is a commander listen to him. and if your new to leading and your squad is complaining, make sure to remind them that they were all too p***y to lead themselves.

Re: Man up and lead a squad
I used to never want to lead. But lately I've been doing it a lot and my squad has done a lot of the teams work. So anyone can really do it, and it doesn't take long to get the hang of it.

you know whats funnier than the, SL shuffle, squad Musical chairs. DB or Fuzz will create a squad to seed and leave once its full, then the entire squad will disband. rinse and repeat.

i always feel like creating a squad and being more aggressive, but i usually end up joining a squad and just asking if i can request an offensive kit

Re: Man up and lead a squad
I particularly don't like being a SL, but not because I don't trust myself to this high pressure job, as mentioned. That would be because of BAD squad members. I'm only a SL when I have either only a few inexperienced people playing on a nearly empty server or good 5 experienced and/or team players.
I don't see a point in leading 5 morons without VOIP who want to be Snipers, Special Forces or anything l337 and die within 30 seconds of game, by either rushing to the enemy main base (while typing "halp, squad leader! I think I found their main base" - this actually happened to me once) or failing at taking off with a chopper.

Re: Man up and lead a squad
this brings up a point i didnt get really get into too much in the beginning. i know it may seem rude, but if you want a good squad sometimes you gotta start kicking people who are idiots. im pretty heartless these days, if someone joins my squd, i do a quick hello and if i get no response i ask if they have a mic, if still no response they get a kick. if they complain i say hey you dont have a mic sorry only people with mics in this squad. if someone in my squad is off on the other end of the map doing god knows what, they get the kick.victor_phx wrote:I particularly don't like being a SL, but not because I don't trust myself to this high pressure job, as mentioned. basically what im saying is if you have a squad full of morons its somewhat your fault because you can always remove people. dont be afraid to use it.

I guess you guys just got unlucky. I only play public (to little time to go clanning) and when I lead I havent got a bad example of players joining. Only an arse of a commander (one time only as well)

I love leading but, if I make a squad its only caused because I'm playing with mates or a really good amount of teamwork is happening. I love commanding if they follow my orders.

Re: Man up and lead a squad
I love sqaud leading people I don't know, Its so hillarious when you have a newbie. Its even more fun when that newbie is pritty good at shooting.
A example of this is when I had someone in my sqaud who had voip/couden't understand english, but he was a dam good shooter, so I kept him in.. he listened to move markers
I really like SLing as a whole, even if our team is loosing its always good fun. Commander can get a bit stressful but I really like it when the round goes "Clockwork" (Everything works out)

Rico11b: Better than that just take the body out of the game all together, and we'll have floating heads in game.

Re: Man up and lead a squad
I generally go SL myself, generally because I always
think that I can do it better (Epic Fail)
ops:
In all seriousness, the key to succesful squads is communication.
But as pointed out that does not ALWAYS have to involve a Mic.
Sometimes you do find SMs out of position but that
may be due to the fact that you have not communicated your
intention/wish clearly. I often use move markers to indicate
where the likely enemey attack is going to come from or
where I think the enemy is. It can get diffcult for somepeople
if you do not communicate WHY you are placing markers.
I guess what I am saying, is that you sometimes have
to balance the 'Kick the No Mic Noob' with 'Why is he/she
doing what they are doing?'
If they fail to respond reasonably....the Kick The Noob!!!

Re: Man up and lead a squad
I have taken up the position of SL a few times recently and let's just say this happened.

It stayed like that and we got best squad, and we won the game for our team, we took North City and defending it like hell, until we ended up with about 3 squads on us and we held it untill the others neutralised docks. We then left North City and spawned at the firebase at Docks 9ok, so it wasn't ALL my squad doing the work
) and I created an AA for someone to sit in and cover us from incoming heli's. We fought to capture docks and managed to get it back and cause the US to loose all of their tickets
. I took a screenshot of the "Best Squad" screen, but didn't realise that print screen doesn't work outside of the actual game, only xfire screenies.
I'm definitely going to do it again, and about 2 seconds after you make a squad called "UK VOIP" or "TEAMWORK" it is fileld with players (for some reason, allot of the time they speak English but are actually from a different country).

Re: Man up and lead a squad
I end up squadleading alot of the time nowadays and i don't normally have any bad examples of players entering the squad. However i have to admit that normally at least one or two of my squad tends to be either a fellow T&T member or a regular of the server but the pubbys who do join are always most welcome and for the nearly always follow my orders even if they do turn out to be rubbish at carrying them out from time to time
Lots of love

Re: Man up and lead a squad
Pah. I suck at PR(Eddiereyes909 will vouch for it) and I squad lead and end up often being the most succesful squad. It's all about teamwork this game funnily enough
Btw, if you ever get a chance to be squad led by [PR]NATO|Flightsurgeon, join his squad, he is THE best SL and just made of pure win.
