shame that there is no such thing as a "hit box" in BF2... BF2 uses collision meshes.

Providing your on a server with a good fps and you have a low ping you should have no problems.

I think FH2 have some sort of "counter-lag" system that comes along with thier FH2 toolbox.

It actually does help in a kind of way. But its still present while using the correct settings
but it helps.

There are more settings you can adjust.

This is posted on more forums.

If you have a 30 ping the game has a server to client lag correction programmed into it. Default it is setup at 100ms ping. The default latency and setting can be found in the file stated below. the setting posted here is what they can be chaged to. example SettingsManager.floatSet GSDefaultLatencyCompensation 0.030000 is for 30 ms ping default its .100000. if you running a low ping (especially a 1-10 ping you suffer the most and you thought that was awesome)
check this out
Alright according to forums this command changes the time between the communication of the server and you
SettingsManager.floatset GSDefaultLatencyCompensation 0.04
typing this in the console would mean you have a ping of 35 to 40ms
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
SettingsManager.boolSet GSClPunkBuster 1
SettingsManager.floatSet GSDefaultLatencyCompensation 0.030000
SettingsManager.boolSet GSExtrapolateFrame 1
SettingsManager.U32Set GSExtrapolationTime 100
SettingsManager.U32Set GSInterpolationTime 100
SettingsManager.U32Set GSPerfLogAtPlayerCount 30
SettingsManager.boolSet GSShowNetGraph 0
SettingsManager.boolSet GSUseObjectCache 1
------------
The file is in your: Gamedir\mods\bf2\settings\usersettings.con
AND
The file is in your: Gamedir\mods\bf2pro\settings\usersettings.con
------------------
In that above you will notice that the compensation command is in the file, the value you typed in the game, is saved to this file when you quit the game...
maybe should you edit the file before going in the server to make sure its working right, but im not sure.. you do the testing..
------
Alright, for the next 3 commands below the compensation one, it works the hitbox or something, the first of the 3 was set to 0, so you enable this.., the second of the 3 was set to 1200 by default... you change that timing to the lowest.. 100..., for the 3rd one i think it was set to 600 by default, and i changed it to 100 too.
All i can tell you from the activation of this and the 2 commands changes, is that i felt playing with 10ms in a server with 100ms.
you got nothing to lose to play with these settings, make a backup of your USERSETTINGS.CON in case you cant remember the default settings.

iv been using this for about 4 weeks now, it seems to help when sniping, but it will not turn a guy with 200 ping into a guy with a ping of under 50.

the other values are said to effect the performance of your computer, the lower you put them, the more cpu usage is put into calculating the players position on your screen in between packets.

so is there a way to set it into pr so ppl dont have to type these in and so new people who dont know about it will just have it set..like code it in so when you join a server these are already set?????????

I know this is a pretty old thread and I apologize for bringing this up again... BUT...

Yes indeed there are "hitboxes" in BF2. Sure you can call them "collision meshes" if you wish, but their purpose is the same :)

I have seen them with my own eyes. There is a way to enable it so it can be seen on screen in game. I've only been able to do it in single player, so I'm not able to test it on server because I don't have one.

Anywho,

I just read a post in another forum that states that BF2142 does NOT have any issues with hitbox lag and whatnot. Is that true? Is there anyone on this forum that can confirm this? If so, has anyone taken the time to compare the two in an effort to determine what was/is changed? Then provide what needs to be changed, if in fact BF2142 has resolved this issue.

Furthermore, if it has been resolved then why oh why hasn't EA/Dice (somebody) released a quick patch to end this mess?

Probably because this is not an easy fix. From what i understand, it cant be fixed with a patch because the issue lies in the netcode.

Seems there may be much truth in the words you speak.

Golly jeepers, that just has to be a way to fix it :)

Yes, but you can change that ;) There is no dynamical "lag compensation/whatever its called" system for it though.

Surpised no-ones mentioned Hitfixer yet, it's a program that essentially does all that typing for you as far as I'm aware, AND it compensates for your ping on individual servers, AND keeps a record of the ping you entered for each server so you don't have to type them in every time you join.

There's a bit of controversy regarding it's legitimacy because the newest version is an autohotkey, also there are some values that can be messed with that can apparently be exploited. I just use it for altering the BF2 engines ping compensation, which I seem to remember being defaulted at 100, which is vastly over when I'm playing on euro servers and enough over on US servers to be worth changing, I notice the difference anyway.

The DEVs mentioned they aren't entirely happy with the program because of it's potential exploitive nature, but said they might make a version that's PR approved.

I don't see how you could use it as a exploit. All it does is changing the lag correction for that specific ping. It would be the same for people with 100 ping.

the PR team not endorsing hitfixer in its current form is a good idea

1) certain sites that people might download it from are not safe
2) there has been no widespread organised testing of hitfixer? - too see if it affects anything

i've used it, and I liked it, but lets give the Devs time to examine it and hopfully reproduce it in their own image.
