New strike. Not a Re-Suggestion

Post by AREM117 »

Heres my idea. Give the officer kit a new way to call in support. Make it so that if you alternate fire on 9th slot Faction Smoke a radio(or other communication device) comes up and if you push "T" and press "Mortor Strike" a 3 round mortor strike will hit the position of your colored smoke with the correct audio message. Make it so that each squad leader can call this in every 15 minutes.

This is not a mortor strike re-suggestion, this is somthing completely new.

What size should the rounds be? I'd lean towards smaller rounds. I'd be cool if this could only be done if a FOB had a mortar emplacement setup within a certain distance.

I quite like the sound of this! Perhaps not in that exact implementation, but giving SLs a little more groundpounding firepower would be great. Perhaps longer than 15 minutes, just so that they have to really think when is an appropriate time to use it... and certainly not 1-per-SL-per-X-time... it'd have to be a team-global thing, maybe 2 every 25 minutes for example, so they might be used in quick succession at both sides of the flag (one down on each side of Kyongan Ni for example) or at random intervals throughout the round.

What do you think of tying it to a FOB emplacement? IE you have to have a FOB with a mortar set up and the strike has to be within the mortar's attack radius. Thiis would prevent it from being used just anywhere.

What happens when the Devs finally implement player controlled arty, then it becomes redundant?

Let the devs play with it, test it, code it, balance it. And then finally let the testers in. let them have a say.... Then what comes out of that, i will decide, now im sceptical. But it would be nice.

i dont want even more of my squads ability link to other squads competence. when 1337k1ll4R56 uses all your strikes at once to kill the 2 infantry he saw i dont think your going to like having a shared pool.

It's a cool idea, except there's one problem. (This is the same problem with the game Mercs2). If you're in range to throw a smoke grenade on something Hostile(which is usually shooting at you) and you throw the smoke. A, they will relocate as soon as they realize they've been targeted(which is pretty soon considering you're throwing bright colored smoke). B, it'd just be much more efficient to shoot at the hostiles or just wip out your knife and have your teammate cover you in case of a hostile rally/FB.

You'll also find a lot of people throwing these smoke grenades around friendly positions and mains. Some people will also be like "rave!! Rave!! Throw smokez!!!" and then boom.

And imagine there is a bunch of people on top of your bunker on Kashan. Throw some smoke down inside the bunker, mortar shells land on top of the bunker.

Too many faults, I say. This would also be incredibly overused. Imagine three squad leaders throwing smoke at once. Incredible power.

Uh, don't link it to smoke grenades then.
