Unmanned Bomb Disposal Unit?

Post by MarshalTecor »

Just a thought. What if the US/Brit/Chinese team could have a Robot bomb disposal unit? lol

Iv just spent ages on Korengal Valley and those bloody IEDs where killing everyone left right and centre! I think the Insurgants were just messing about cuz their really did seem to be 100's everywhere! Not just on the roads either! lol! Walls, Trees, on top of a roof! Hell, even on a river bank!

Just thinking, why not have a bomb disposal unit that could take out IEDs/C4/Slams? They would be easily destructible obviously, and the kit carrying them would only be able to hold 1 per life or whatever. Also there could be a small limit, maybe one per team even?

You could always put one in the engi jeep, provided there was a way to control it remotely from inside. And provided you could give it some sort of a weapon/fake weapon that could actually destroy IEDs.

Would take one engineer out of the game, but then engis already have non-combat tasks like fixing bridges.

So surely I could just blow my IED, rendering the machine useless, then take out the inf, nice idea, but I don't see it working too much.

That's kinda how it works in real life. Sure, you can blow the IED and destroy the machine, but no infantry will get hurt in the process. That's why it's a remote controlled machine.

exactly, thats what i was thinking. The Remote vehicle would be to safely destroy the IED without injuring any players. And if it was blown up to destroy the unmanned thing then we know that there is a insurgent nearby watching.

^^And get Rhino to go Rambo?

It's an interesting concept, but not that much of a priority IMO. Though, how would you be able to simulate it on the BF 2 engine? Similar to the video-camera missiles of vBF 2? but w/out a distance limit and disarms explosives instead of exploding? In that case, would it be able to be programmed to travel on land and get destroyed when shot? It would be an interesting thing to explore, but I don't think you could give it the same qualities as a vehicle (ie, you "enter" it), since if it blew up, you would die (just slightly counter-productive).

Well im sure you could do something like the camera missles yeah, somewhere in the coding im sure you could probs edit the time frame before it explodes (runs out of power?) Maybe it should be deployed from a new type of humvee? it could be deployed out the back or something. That way you could potentially give it an "enter" ability. However when it did die, you would be safe (if thats actually possible in a vehicle in PR!) in the humvee.

I wonder if you program this as a projectile (which would be the only way to if you don't want to die if it explodes), would it be able to be shot?

While I haven't tried it, I highly doubt that EA/Dice bothered to make any of the projectiles have their own damage system (though I wouldn't blame them on this one). If that is the case, is it possible to program it so?

Im no programmer so i couldnt answer that. I work on building websites with html, css, flash etc. Id love to know how everything with the coding of games works but my knowledge is very basic there.

I THINK with some clever coding it could be possible, but like i said - i have no idea! :P Would any DEV's like to speak up at this point? (Y)
