Air Combat map?

Post by Jafar Ironclad »

Hey guys, finally posting here for the first time. Been really enjoying the mod and what it strives for. I checked the "already suggested" thread and didn't find anything about Air Combat maps, so I'm posting it.

I think that having a Kashan-sized map that focuses on two sides going after each others strategic targets with air power (Command Bunkers, Radar towers, weapon launch sites, etc.) would be really cool, in spite of the jet physics and net code limitations. There could be three sides of the battle; the people in jets fighting for air superiority so ground attack craft can make their runs, target defenders that man anti-aircraft guns and platforms to defend from bombers and support the middle-altitude air war, and special ops teams that go in and fight the defenders to knock out the air defense mechanisms.

What do you guys think?

Its been talked about. Maybe some mappers will take up the cause and make a good map and not some desert waste land. Its gotta have character. Thats about where it stands.

There was a PR remake for Wake Island in the works that was going to focus heavily on air as well, but it got dropped.

What kind of terrain would it be? Specifics or/and a paint drawing would be great.

*technically* it wouldn't be vanilla, wake was a bf1942 map not a bf2 map, and PR wouldn't take it as is, but rather just the general idea. PR's version would undoubtedly be much larger for starters. However he said they dropped the idea, oh well.

The remake was actually looking really good, if you search for it you can see for yourself.

Oh yeah, very good and great view distance.

But as Codered already said, this has been discussed a ton, and if you want to make the map then go ahead.

Thanks for the suggestion!
