New idea for the HUD on jets
I have been thinking alot lately about how the HUD looks and I think that it is good, but the thing is that since you(the team) made it so that the view is farther back than it was in Vanilla I thought about where the view from the HUD SHOULD be, farther back.
But the problem with that is that the HUD is already bigger than the glass plate(s) it is supposed to be on. THAT, certainly isn't realistic.
My suggestion is this:
-The view of the HUD is farther back(where the pilot's head should be)
-The HUD is small enough to fit on the glass which it is supposed to be on
-Reinstate the F9(which was the nose cam in Vanilla) so that F9 would be a close up view of the HUD(close enough so that HUD fits on the glass, even if it had to be made a bit smaller)
This would make it so that the view is more realistic, as it is from the Pilot's view. But it also makes it so that the pilot can see the HUD clearly if they have low resolution, or just want to have the HUD around them while they make an attack.

Re: New idea for the HUD on jets
I think, given the severe limitations of the engine and HUD design. That PR just make up plausibly real HUDs with no intentions of modeling the real deal. If they have to make up some sort of helmet/goggle camera then they should.

very good my friend.^
I think what should be done is like in BGF and FH2, where you're in a wide view of the cicockpit, and then you can go to hud view

Yeah, except we don't have working gauges in the cockpits, or even the ability to look around the cockpit while in control of the aircraft.blackhatch46 wrote:that reminds me, only attack helos have a hud irl. a lb doesnt (even the attack version), a huey doesnt, a blackhawk doesnt, ect. ect.

is there a way to only leave up the numbers for altitude and airspeed? thats all you really need.daranz wrote:Yeah, except we don't have working gauges in the cockpits, or even the ability to look around the cockpit while in control of the aircraft.

There's also a ball for the artificial horizon, more than likely there's an ammo counter as well. The HUD currently displays all information that would regularly be available for the pilot if we had a working instrument panel, which we don't.blackhatch46 wrote:is there a way to only leave up the numbers for altitude and airspeed? thats all you really need.

Re: New idea for the HUD on jets
I am willing to bet that Hueys, LBs etc all have huds. Even some Passenger Jets are having Huds put in them now...
It would be possible to put the Hud into the glass space, but maybe then it would be too small, and most Huds nowadays I think would be helmet mounted.
My idea is to do something like this:
www.dumpert.nl - A10 vs Taliban Bikers
Where you have the main pilot hud, and an extra camera with zoom (the black and white part) for A10, SU25 etc.

Do you fly them? I doubt they have huds built in, just on the helmets. But I swear I have seen some pictures a Hud in a huey. It seems very unlikely that they would not have them. Maybe not the USMC I don´t know.

I agree with what blackhatch46 is saying, on a secondary note it would further put PR in a class of its own, and also I bet the piloting experience will be more immersive without all the greenyness in front of your eyes all the time. Although, how do you aim the missles from teh Hueys?

Re: New idea for the HUD on jets
I really think this is a great idea. Having the pilots view inside the jets being further back would be ACE! Its much more realistic! Hell something i think would be cool to see is a "inside the pilots mask view"! You could have like a small HUD on the sides or something maybe? Being able to actually see the joystick in the cockpit move would be nice also!
Something iv been thinking about for a wile is that if you could look around the cockpit of the plane, wile simultaneously being able to fly that would be more real as well. I find it so annoying that when im flying and trying to look for targets on the ground (by holding a button on my joystick, the default is usually holding Ctrl and moving the mouse or whatever), the steering locks!!!

Slightly off topic, but it looks to me like the black and white video feed might be from a 3rd party?[R-CON]Alex6714 wrote: My idea is to do something like this:

And what weapon is being used by the a-10 there?
I assume the cannon, but the impact pattern looks a little weird for that?

Re: New idea for the HUD on jets
From what I can tell, it is either from the same A10, or a wingman.
0.45 and 1:50, the camera follows the planes trajectory it seems and one one of them you can even see the bullet blur before they hit.

It's the A-10C upgrade that has a camera that zooms to see targets.[R-CON]Alex6714 wrote:From what I can tell, it is either from the same A10, or a wingman.0.45 and 1:50, the camera follows the planes trajectory it seems and one one of them you can even see the bullet blur before they hit.
But back to the topic: View from where the pilot's head is, and a bigger zoom HUD(though a guncam would be awesome too, you should reply to that on that thread)

they have an IR camera to aim rockets, and for many other reasons.Dr2B Rudd wrote:I agree with what blackhatch46 is saying, on a secondary note it would further put PR in a class of its own, and also I bet the piloting experience will be more immersive without all the greenyness in front of your eyes all the time. Re: New idea for the HUD on jets
why do i have to fly them to know anything? i fucking tear them apart and put them back together again, i know more about the aircraft than the pilots know about tying their shoes. pilots dont know shit, they just get in and wiggle the sticks around.[R-CON]Alex6714 wrote:Do you fly them? Re: New idea for the HUD on jets
I found a prett good vid of the a-10 hud, also theres some pretty good voice chatter to put in the planes instead of the other annoying one.
