[Map] Al Basrah Night Audit (2km) [WIP]

Hello everyone!
My friends and me where thinking about doing a Night insurgency map like Al-Basara and we started working on it...
bad thing is that we dont know how to put lights and NVG on it...
any ideas...
Another thing is that we dont know what to do... wait for .85 or start now?
ANY HELP would be well recived

Pitch black night? How are the Insurgents gonna survive that, since they ovbiously have no NVG's?

Nightmaps are hard. Hard to play, hard to make (good). If you can get hold of PR 0.6, it had Bi Ming (Night) in it. Looking at those files may help you on your way.

And perhaps this tut can help you a bit further on your way: How to make your Day map a Night map - Official BF Editor Forums

Unfortunately you can't just say "make this daymap a nightmap", it takes a lot of tweaking of light settings, etc.

That Bi Ming at night just sucked doesn't mean all other nightmaps have to suck as well.

what i ment is not a PITCH BLACK night.. a starry big moon kind of night :D
and there is no problem with the amount of insurgents getting killed, since it does nothing to the team points :D
it would be good if the civ gets a NVG... just an idea...
and no... i am not saying HEY DEVS, go on do that... you miss understood me...
we are hands on it... what we need is some help on the ilumination thingie..

And btw, Bi Ming didn't suck at all. It was just too hard for the majority of players, hehehe.

Bi Ming night FTW epic, that was a epic game :mrgreen: , all i can say go for it its a lot of trail and error AND MAKE BACK UPS !!!!!

But on topic, maybe if you look a the Community Match Desert Rats map, maybe darker than that, but not by too much, might be nice ;)

Interesting, maybe make it a tad blueish to make it fit with the skytexture? Also, what is that big flashy red light, is it the sun? should be removed IMO lol :razz:

Keep going, this is definitely promising!

maybe add some lit up buildings man, cause it'll be impossibe to manuver without some sort of light or nvgs

Will the lights cast light or are they just blobs of white in the dark? Will land rover headlights emit light like er....proper headlights?

If not its a total waste of time imo, and without dynamic lighting ALL nightmaps will be rubbish.

IMO All nightmaps need:


No NVGs as standard eqpt for every soldier. SF and officer only
Explosions and tracers that light up the surrounding area
Lights that light up the surrounding area (searchlights anyone?)
Parachute flares that light up a considerable area
(look here at 1.26 YouTube - Nighttime Firefight in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Its through NVG but you get the idea)

If you are fighting at night, you want that feeling of sneaking around in the dark, then suddenly everything erupts and the guns and explosions and fires light things up a bit, then it all goes quiet and dark again.

Right now its just lots of people running around in the dark with NO way of lighting things up. Even worse, one team can see while the other cant?!

I really like the look of your map now guys, but without decent dynamic lighting I dont think I'll like playing it.....

Well at least in USMC, every soldier has a NVG. It would be stupid if every soldier in PR wouldn't have.

That night map looks actually pretty AWESOME, of course needs tweaking and so, but it looks great for an aplha. More city lights are required or insurgents will be defeated in secs.

Also a flashlight would be nice addition in the game, at least for insurgent SL's. But I don't know, maybe it would be too hard to make.

hipocrites!

was a great map and i wish it to come back...roxx far more then bi ming with daylight....yes it was hard, but i still didnt use no night vision, same with bf2:sf...dont use that **** until u invite something like predators view...i want infrared view at night!

From the current WIP it looks like you wont even need NVG as the INS can be seen from a mile away... it didnt look like it was making soldiers dark due to no light, instead it was just ignoring them and leaving them very visible... Weird.

I think its too dark. You have plenty of city lights and yet everything thats not a foot from a light is absolutely textureless black... Even at midnight at my home I can make out plenty of detail if there are a few lights around town :)

Keep it up, this has potential :)
