IED explosion to big?
i was playing archer and i managed to blow up a humvie with an ied from 10 meters away i think and i dont know if thats realistic but i was think if the ied could badly damage the vehicle to where the wheels wont work any more or to where the car would catch on fire. becuase when i see vids of humvies ieded some times they are not sereously hurt. once again no sure have not been to iraq maybe some one could say more about this. so my idea is to make the ied less powerful and make it more of a team effort to bring down a humvie some one could blow the ied and some one could throw a molotov on it or cover it with automatic fire. i dont know if thats possible with the bf2 engine so what do you guys think?
YOU CANT STOP ME!!!

IEDs can be any size they want, in PR they can only come in one size.
In BF2 you can only have two vehicle states: operation or completely destroyed. Normally an IED would disable a HMMWV if not completely destroy. The damage system in BF2 isn't elaborate enough to put your idea into practice. It in ultimately end up with a lot of HMMWVs driving away, damaged but perfectly operational.

i think the explosion size is pretty good the way it is but i think the size of the IED itself is too small. it doesnt look right that that tiny little stick of dynamite makes such a huge blast.

But you can't hide an IED in BF2 (well you can in some spots where you can get it to clip into a wall or the ground) so if you make it too big then it'd be easy to spot and avoid thus defeating one of the purposes of building an IED in the first place (they're supposed to not look like bombs or look out of place).charliegrs wrote:i think the explosion size is pretty good the way it is but i think the size of the IED itself is too small. it doesnt look right that that tiny little stick of dynamite makes such a huge blast.

Who said it was dynamite ?charliegrs wrote:i think the explosion size is pretty good the way it is but i think the size of the IED itself is too small. it doesnt look right that that tiny little stick of dynamite makes such a huge blast.
An IED is a bomb fabricated in an improvised manner incorporating destructive, lethal, noxious, pyrotechnic, or incendiary chemicals and designed to destroy or incapacitate personnel or vehicles. In some cases, IEDs are used to distract, disrupt, or delay an opposing force, facilitating another type of attack. IEDs may incorporate military or commercially-sourced explosives, and often combine both types, or they may otherwise be made with home made explosives (HME).

Yeah, the reason it's so small is to represent that soldiers usually don't know or spot where they are.Solid Knight wrote:if you make it too big then it'd be easy to spot

Re: IED explosion to big?
I remember some mod for bf2 where when you placed land mines they went under the ground with only the top pin showing, This could probably be more realistic, But usually ieds are placed by teams of people so I think if anything they should make it so ieds are placed but have to be dug with shovels, That would be the most realistic if possible. And they can be dug up by coalition forces kind of like disarming. Also instead of making them trigger able make them like landmines with pressure plates.Solid Knight wrote:But you can't hide an IED in BF2 (well you can in some spots where you can get it to clip into a wall or the ground) so if you make it too big then it'd be easy to spot and avoid thus defeating one of the purposes of building an IED in the first place (they're supposed to not look like bombs or look out of place).

IEDs can be anything from a pipe bomb wired to a door to a wheel barrel full of old Russian rockets and a cell phone. In game IED will kill/severely damage most vehicles if you put them on the road and detonate at the right moment. That simulates RL as much as can be expected within the confines of the game IMO.

possibly to "dig it" into the ground so only the tip is visible, such as the mines in forgotten hope2.

Re: IED explosion to big?
For being smaller than your garden-variety pipe-bomb, it is WAAAAAY too big. You can knock out an Abrams if they run over it.
Someone however already suggested making IED's model look like 155MM artillery shells, and he already made a model for it. if they were the size of 155MM artillery shells, they would be more fitting.
speaking of which, i remember playing on Korengal valley and planted 3 IEDs on a tree, the explosion was about as powerful as an aircraft bomb dropped from an F-16.

Yes, I believe we are getting IED's in the shape of artillery shells now.
