Ironshights

Post by Meow »

I couldnt find a topic about this so here we go.

Is it me or the new ironsights are utterly useless and unrealistic.
Im not talking just about the guns but also the UK/US light at (AT4) and to a lesser degree the MEC one. With the LAT ironshights its essentially impossible to make out what your are shooting at if it 20 meters away and you cant make it out with your peripheral vision.
Im pretty sure anyone shooting those would bring the sight close enough to have a decent view of whats down range.
Same goes for the rifle sights, especially for the G3. Again with any of the ironshight kits its essentially impossible to fire at anything beyond 20 meters.
My other problem is the current gun view while in ironsight mode. I find it very unrealistic and ineffective. If a US soldier can bring his red dot scope close enough to have a very decent view of his target how is it that a MEC soldier is limited to about 10% of the same visual scope.

Why were the ironsights changed anyway, what was the logic behind it?

I would definitely prefer a return to the old ironshights or a similar version of it as the current set up make a lot of kits pretty much useless when using the rifle.

Less peripheral vision? Buddy, the new irons allow for a greater view around the point of aim, the 'problem' you seem to be having is that you want to have a greater degree of vision within the apeture.

Because..
  • They look significantly better in terms of overall visual aesthetics
  • Saves a lot of time in preparing weapons by relieving the need to create additional meshes and zoom texture files
  • 100% Continuity between unsighted and zoomed in views
  • Generally more precise because the proportions are 1:1 wrt perspective
  • Allows for a greater degree of flexibility in terms of animations
  • Zoom in animations are much more smoother with 3D ironsights compared to 2D sprite based ironsights, since we implemented a delay in the transistion.
No going back.

I like the current iron sights. Better then those 2D ones from BF2. Now I can actually hit something in this game :)

3d sights need a slight zoom (as said before) to compensate the human eye.
