Considering we have maps that let us play as insurgents, let us use IED's and suicide bombs, I don't know why language is such a big deal. PR is like rated R anyway.

Have you been punished here for using the work *******? If not then its probably not seen as a bad word. I would never punish for that word but mix it with an insult thats where you will get in trouble.
Rhino;721732']the crappyist filter is having "noob" as a bad word, I mean I watch shitey getting kicked for saying ranky is a noob or something just for fun, I mean is noob really that much of a offensive word that people have to block it off? and then they dont even block of "n00b"...

I mean the auto admin on the bad word filter is kinda crappy, if some one is causing a problem a real admin should be on the server to sort it. If some one really wants to be offensive to some one they will do it over VOIP....
-I got kicked once for saying Careless Noob, which was the nick of a player I was trying to communicate with...
3 Words:

Lack Of Vocabulary.
-I find that my vast vocabulary allows me to curse in the most innovative ways :D .

-Anyone playing on the MEC side in the Community Match with the ability to listen to my VOIP will most likely be faced with a barrage of cursing on numerous occasions.

Holy necro!

I think that, do it over voip(i mean listen to me in the NATO 2 Zombie battle(my voice starts at :05)) but just not write it, when written, it's generally an insult.

I have a mixed feeling towards cursing in servers, i allways curse to myself when i get shot, you hear the "F-word im dead"

I may call someone an idiot from time to time for actions that were not very wise to do.

But i never start calling people motherf, or fag as i see so much around, on our server "The BattleArena" we do allow some forms of smack talk but when its getting nasty we will warn, kick and eventually ban people for it.

It doesnt matter if your a kid or a adult, there is no excuse, there are rules of decency that must be maintained.

I remember in Apocalypse Now there's a part where Kurtz is having one of his soliloquies and says a line that comes to mind:

"They train boys to drop fire on people, but they won't allow then to write the word 'f&%k' on an airplane because ... it's obscene."

I think if you're talking about hypocrisy in a war game then you should know it exists in real war too. Think about all the weird morality and the heavily Christian influence in armies that go about breaking one of the most important commandments. And not just breaking cause they kill but doing things that are all together terrible and unnecessary. Life is hypocrisy.

But yes it is an overreaction for Admin to snap at you when you swear I think. If you're going out of your way to be offensive or its particularly bad taste (some racial expletives for instance) then yea but still, average run of the mill swearing seems benign in a game centred around realistic slaughter.

I feel bad when people get banned trying to ask me a question :(

I really do not understand the point of these kick filters etc, 99% of the time, its because of someone going 'bollocks, I got killed' rather than 'mate, you are a f*** etc etc'.

If I wanted to insult someone without getting kicked for a filter, its quite easy. So, doesn't that defeat the point of it??

I swear quite a lot, I'll be honest, I get excited when I play PR... :p How is that a bad thing? It will be like: 'F***king hell guys, take that bloody (Is that a swear word to you?) MG down, I'm getting raped by it!'

It has a bit more sense of urgency than: 'Hey guys, I'm being suppressed by an MG, it is really starting to hurt, please help me.'

If you do not like swearing in a server I have one thing to say to you: 'Man up.'

If someone is being rude and vulgar towards someone; get them kicked.

As written the rules for our server are "No Racism or Extreme vulgar language" I guess that does leave it to the discression of the admins. We have some active duty and a lot of prior service guys. Certainly some potty mouths in our crew. We curse at each other pretty openly on VOIP as clan members and sometimes at pubbers etc. The odd "WTF Is your prob get your sh*t together" is not uncommon.

There is a point where you can just go too far with someone if you are really just being 'exreme' lacing it into them.

However if we as =]H[= members were to pub it on a different server I would hope we would have the self control to keep our outbursts and behavior a little more appropriate. For instance the =DAM= clan the Dads&Moms they are a really family oriented server and we can respect that.

Certainly comes down for who is paying for their respective servers.

Cursing is to be expected ( ask anyone bout my rants ) I don't think that's the problem unless your playing on a server like =DAM=. It's when you direct it at someone in particular and use it as an insult that there's a problem. If it's harassing one of my players then I'll take notice and warn. Then kick if it doesn't stop. Doing it the auto admin way is a bit much me thinks.

my thouughts on this is you should not type curse, its uneccisary, and unrealistic, it takes away from you being ingame to look for the letters(or if a better typer just typen it) and making peaple read it becuase you died,

if you like, get sniped or somethen while talking on voip to your squad, and you cuss, that fine with me, but if you die, then you press the buttion to say somethen like "f***, that B**** just killed me" you are uneccisarly cussing, cuss outload, just not while talking to the squad.

the most i would press and cuss in voip is dam, he just got me from northeast"

or "sh**, im pinned down by mg fire from the sw"

theres my 2 kroner( my remake of the saying theres my two cents =P)

I think it's about respect. We should be open to cuss freely through the text chat, that shouldn't be a problem at all. We're all interacting on a mature game, so what's the harm in having some cuss words come across the screen? If you don't like reading it, you could always ignore it.

VOIP on the other hand is where the admins should be extremely strict and not allow any cussing at all. Again, for respect. Now, when you're swearing it's coming loud through speakers whereas everyone in their home is going to be able to hear it. So, now obviously we're reaching outside of the realm of everyone being involved in the mature game. There could be children around, family, parents, etc. For people to constantly cuss through VOIP shows a huge lack of respect for everyone else in their squad.

I think there is not and should not be a problem with "sh**, he got me!" or "f***, I'm suppressed!". Swearing directed against other players should be avoided though. "you a**hole get out of the humvee now!" isnt needed.

My personal philosophy is that cussing at people is simply a display of one's lack of vocabulary. ;)

As to doing it on servers, that's to the discretion of the owners. For instance, our =DaM= servers have a swear filter on in-game chat. We do promote ourselves as a family-friendly clan, which is why we run it. All the same, you may find even a few of us letting out a swear on VOIP, but never directed at anyone.

I understand that in the heat of the battle, its easy to let one fly loose, and that's why we've been pretty forgiving of people auto-banned, but for the most part the only people banned because of it are smacktards who didn't bother to read the rules or simply ignored them.

I've played on several servers, and there's no difference in teamwork and cooperation between some of the best servers that allow cussing and ours.

Well ladies and gentleman, do not forget that i have already covered in the beginning of this thread that i am not talking about cursing AT anybody, just merely the cursing that slips out when murdering people and slashing their throats thats so vulgar yet, swearing being such a much more dangerous thing apparently.
