hey for some reason when i open threads, the original message is not there just random replies from people and i have no idea what people are talking about. whats going on?

I believe that the default for new users is newest posts on top, so all you need to do is change that in your settings under user CP. Don't worry, I was fooled by that too when I first joined.

I guess it has something to do with your forum display mode. At the top right corner of the thread, you'll see "Linkback", "Thread Tools", etc, and you'll see "Display Modes". Click it and then click on "Linear Mode".
