Re: Training mod
Please don't limit server licenses to 20 players, there are cases when more than 20 players can legitimately be using a training server for training. Perhaps just require passwording again.

Re: Training mod
Why not? If they want to play the mod this way... I for myself cant understand it. I only go on a training to have so fun for a short time. But after an hour it really gets boring!Skodz wrote:Yeah, thats a way to see it but the problem is, I still see people crashing helicopters in real game mode because they tried to take off too fast or stuff like that...
Its a sad thing it is easier to populate a training server then a real one.
People should be using training game mode to learn the basics of PR then to go on the real game mode, not to play for hours on training with all-out battles.
I think it would be good to make a training server with the original map layout.
So there also can be tactis, dogfights trained and thinks like that.
But i think if that happens they were 24 hours full.
Because not much ppl would play on a server with this huge spawntimes!
I find it very funny with so much assets like on a training server.

Re: Training mod
Aww c'mon rhino, you guys already neutered the original now you're going to make it even more useless? Part of training is participating in mock battles. I can't train a tank crew by having them shoot at a target. I can't train a sniper on stationary targets. I can't train air to air without having hostile jets to fight. And I sure as hell can't train infantry fire and maneuver tactics without an opfor.[R-DEV]Rhino wrote:its not really a "mod" its a "Game Mode"...
Ye, we have seen this becoming more and more of a problem, the training mode was only made to help players learn bits of the mod and have a place to practices but more and more we see this being exploited and used for just essentially a PR with lots and vehicles and low respawns...
We intend to change the training mode in a few ways for v0.85 to stop it being used like it is now and how it was meant to be used.
If anything you guys need to do what the original training mod did, give both sides all kinds of assets. The people who want to train on things like accuracy or how to use certain kits will do so, those who want to practice using their kits against an opponent will do so. Training mode isn't the real game, just because some people are using it incorrectly in your mind doesn't mean you should screw over those of us who use it right.

Re: Training mod
I agree that the training servers are getting too common and abused.
For example, I found a Al Basrah (which I always join when I get chance) with two other players. So I join and I find the (to my surprise) they are having a battle at the FIGHT spawn. So I join the BRITs and join the squad and get ready for some practice....only to be told by the SL "ummmm..yea your gonna leave now". I was thinking "well that was rude", and asked why I needed to leave considering it was a public server. I was told that he and the other player were having a normal fight and that they wanted the server to themselves. I told him I wouldn't be an arse and TK or anything like that and I was looking to train, just like them. He responded by unloading ever AK clip he had onto me (no FF so nothing happened) and kept saying the same thing he said before. So I continued to fight the other player (who didn't seem to mind) while the SL followed me around continuing to fire on me.
After 2 mins straight of this I told him that "You could be fighting your friend with me right now, instead of wasting you bullets and time". So he stopped and said I was a noob and disconnected. I shrugged and let his friend know he had left to join another server and that he was welcome to stay and continue fighting. He said "thanks for the offer, but he needed to go", so I said bye and he left and soon after that 3 more players joined and the battle continued.
I sometimes go on training servers to practice just INFANTRY (seeing as it's the biggest part of the game). But the majority of the time I'm looking for a training server running Al Basrah (this is mainly because I'm sick and tired of KASHAN training always having like 4 choppers, 2-3 planes and even armor spamming the MEC infantry spawn). At least on Al Basrah, you can actually get some infantry going, but at least FF should be on for this map (to prevent the ever annoying multi-bomb bomb cars).
Most of the time (not to toot my own horn), I go on the smaller servers and find a new player (that's actually willing to learn) and teach them the basics. I'd follow them and tell them about the kits they are using, explain the new features of PR (bleed system, kit request system, kit limitation system, etc.). After they understand the basics, I let him practice shooting me, to get a feel for the deviation. After he feels confident enough, we start a mock INFANTRY battle at the Al Basrah FIGHT spawn. After that's done and he's ready to leave, I'll tel him about the PR community forums (where he can get answers to questions) and also tell him about the GUIDE (for further reading).
Well there my rant, sorry for the long post

Re: Training mod
The training servers have become places where smacktards can have their "fun", but its really annoing when you are trying to teach a friend the basics and somebody follows you, sets c4 around you and the rest you know.. One good thing about training servers is that when the unwanted idiots are in training servers they arent playing the real deal, well most of them.

Re: Training mod
Training server taught me how to fly. Not because i had an empty server and plenty of spare choppers. But because of those mock battles, because i had people to kill or avoid. Because every time i popped above the ridge line i'd get locked on to. Without these people who actually play in a training server, i would have reinforced plenty of bad habbits and gotten my *** handed to me when i tried to apply what i've learned in training, to a real game.
Now kashan is far from the perfect all around training map, but it works for what it is. Pilot and AAV training. The only thing training mode needs is more maps dedicated to certin types of training. Limiting players or password protecting is just going to make sure that any new person playing the game will not use the training servers, but take the easier route of learning on the fly in real games, and we all know how that works out.

Re: Training mode
in the old version we ever trained on coop. The Problem is the bots are really stupid.
So if things work in coop, and you try it on a live server, you fast will check thats its not so easy then it seems to be.

Re: Training mode
training specific maps are in the plans but not for v0.85.
training servers will no longer be visible in the server browser for normal servers, but only when you select the training tab, which will hopefully cut down on players accidentally joining a training server when they thought they were joining a real server.

Re: Training mode
It would already be a great improvement, if training maps were set up exactly like their AAS counter-parts, ie. Kashan could have MEC with all MEC assets in-game at their main base (BMP3, BTRs, T90) and USA with all USA stuff at US main (Bradleys, Strykers) and nothing else around the map, all vehicles would be on a low spawn and should also have a shorter life span to prevent spamming and someone driving them out of the map where they'd stay forever.
The reason why Battleforce server is so popular is because it's an admin-free, base rape, spawn rape and tard fest available 24/7 place running a training map with flawed design that allows all the above.

Re: Training mode
Hopefully in the future a team member or community member will make a real training map. This is an excellent opportunity to jump into PR editing. What we would be looking for is one or different training maps the would be used like real training.
Maps that are just a big bf2/pr free kill zones aren't wanted. And hopefully will be phased out.
Personally maps that are wanted. These would have no OPFOR (or very little OPFOR). Also based off of a real area you give you a huge thumbs up.

Re: Training mode
agree with fox here, training mode is not meant to kill hordes and hordes of baddies on low respawn. If thats the kind of training your into, just join a cod4 server and you will get all the training you need
the hope for training servers for new players was a place where you could hop in to test all the vehicles and new features of PR in a non competitive environement, where they could interact with others and maybe make some friends with other players doing the same thing.
the hope for training servers for veteran players was a place to refine tactics and practice squad formations, with you clan/gaming community/etc. This could be done on a public training server or private, and you could throw one or two of your clan mates on the OPFOR to simulate a target but not engage in real fighting.
That was the intention of training, obviously things dont always go as intended
training will get refined some more in v0.85 so hopefully we will see some improvements, but until training specific maps come out it will probably continue to be played in the manner it is right now, as a care-free kill zone as fox put it.
I agree with his idea for a training map, no OPFOR or an extremely limited OPFOR.
If you want to train 2 sides equally, then go on a live server, nothing can beat that in terms of training experience.
If you want to check out the mod for the first time or practice some tactics and formations with a squad without worrying about getting killed, then training server is for you.

Re: Training mode
Very good news from both, redfox and fuzzhead
To Answer T.A. Sharp, I do not want to get ride of training server, I just want it to be used as its meant to be. Because when good players decides to go play for 1-2-3 hours or even more on a training server without any training objective, it just make less people playing real game mode so less real game mode server populated and less choice for other players looking for the real thing to choose from.
