Long list of suggestions + constructive critism
Alright, in my household, we have upgraded our internet connection to over half of the bandwidth we had before. Sadly enough, thanks to the BF2 engine, that is barely enough to be able to play the game. At any rate, I had my first real sitdown (one that wasn't full of insane online lag) with PR 0.8.
My impressions of the mod still leaves it as my favorite mod for BF2, but the mod is too bitter sweet. In some areas where it really excels, it craps out in many others. I really, really love the pace of the game. You have it done it perfectly, you are not forced into battle like in many FPS games, and you can even take a time out to build up outposts and bases. You and your squad can play the game the way you want. Kudos on the overall game, its gotten quite good.
I know I am not a regular here, so I may just come off as an ***, but at any rat, in hopes that you will still be changing stuff in the future:
- I'm not sure about anybody else, but it feels like I am wearing lead boots in PR. I sit on my *** all day for most of the year, but I am quite capable of running (or sprinting, in this case) a lot farther and faster than I can in PR, even with heavy equipment. I feel so weighed down, and I never have the ability to sprint when I need it, for instance when I am trying to get the fuck out of the way of an enemy machinegun. perhaps in the future, have a system similar to ArmA, where as you get more and more tired, your sprint slows down gradually, as well as your character getting tired (aim becomes less steady) rather than having the arcadey "stamina bar."
- The suppression is ludicrous. One bullet goes by you and you are blinder than a drunken **** Cheney with a shotgun. Perhaps tone it down, or simply modify the effect, so you get a blur, rather than psychedelic tunnel vision.
- I have been pitching this for a while, perhaps manually fix the severe lag issues that Dice/EA introduced to the game. Back when BF2 was in it's first version, the online play was reliably smooth, but once it hit 1.21 (or whatever it was) I started getting insane lag, along with many other people, no doubt thanks to the fucking geniuses at Dice and EA's QA. I assume that their idiotic errors will not be fixed by them, if you guys could fix this somehow, the game would be much more enjoyable and way less frustrating. If you are wondering about the kind of lag I am speaking of; I was playing last night, and was an MEC marksman on a hotel roof, an APC opened fire on us, so I stood up to sprint back, I turned towards the center of the building, then one of these mini spikes hit me, my character did a full 360 (no, I did not do it by accident) and I fell off the edge. That's how bad it is, it even happens when I have a ping of 60-90.
- Do you think more ammo to the RPG7 gunners would hurt? A standard PG7VR warhead only weighs about 2 - 2.5 KG. I doubt weight is a limitation here, and 1 warhead doesn't do much in the way of balance, maybe 2-3 would be a more suitable and realistic number.
- The recoil on the LMG's is rediculous. I realize this must have been done for balance reasons, but it is ultimately unacceptable. The gun is totally and completely useless when undeployed. Having never fired a machinegun, I will just use other references: YouTube - M60 Machine Gun
As you can see, the weight of the gun takes a lot of the recoil. Maybe to keep a bit of the balance, don't make it so it has no recoil, but it feels like the MG's are origami, and the shots just throw them around.
I don't mean this in a really demanding way, but it would simply make the game much more enjoyable, and fix all of the irritating, and often "unrealsitic" aspects. It would be nice to have a smoother, more enjoyable experience.

im really curious as to why your getting so much lag. would you mind tellin us your system specs? because i by no means have a super system, and definitly dont have any kind of uber broadband connection, and i get zero lag. plus what are the ping times of the servers you join? i dont think bf2 has an inherit lag problem, it may be your pc is not system and not your connection.

Exactly, especially as on two of the American Servers that I like to hang out on I have pings of 250 - 270 and can play as smooth as. The only exception being the dirt bike and the insurgent ute that doesn't have a .50charliegrs wrote:im really curious as to why your getting so much lag. would you mind tellin us your system specs? because i by no means have a super system, and definitly dont have any kind of uber broadband connection, and i get zero lag. plus what are the ping times of the servers you join? i dont think bf2 has an inherit lag problem, it may be your pc is not system and not your connection.

I'm not sure if it's different in militia, but insurgents already get 3 shots with their RPG7's.hypnotoad wrote: - Do you think more ammo to the RPG7 gunners would hurt? Please search for the relevant threads for each suggestion, it helps avoid getting the same debates over and over again.hypnotoad wrote:(aim becomes less steady) rather than having the arcadey "stamina bar."
hardcoded, my personal thought is to increase total stamina, but also increase the % level at which you cannot run again until charged

thats your system I think, lower FPS = longer supression effect. But I agree that its rather nasty for the worse off computers

check ur FPS levels, a ping of less than 200 is perfectly if FPS is up to scratch

Bring a technical or defend a cache?
- The recoil on the LMG's is rediculous.
read the dev journal on LMGs

otherwise, check ur system mate, sounds like its time for a clean/upgrade/fix.
fact, the nvidia 6 series has already lived out its usefulness. Get a 9 series or better (I have the 6800 standard, its time to move on guys)nvida 6100 video card

Re: Long list of suggestions + constructive critism
My specs are:
- Nvidia 8800GT
- 2 GB of RAM
- AMD 5200+ dual core.
I run on a constant 60 FPS for PR.
Long story short, I can play Crysis on high settings, and most other games maxed. So, no. It's BF2. not me. I'm not sure if it is a compatibility issue or something, but one thing is for sure, Dice is not doing anything to fix it.
You guys may just be used to this lag. I play source based mods, so I come to expect better quality from online play, so when I drop into a BF2 based game, you can imagine what it's like.

thats pretty crazy, I'm not an expert on this thing, but have you set ur shortcut to affinity 2? (I think thats how you get BF2 to use a dual core properly)

no its not BF2. you specs are way beyond mine, i run PR on high and i have zero lag. i suspect it is your internet connection. no one is "used to the lag" because i think most of us dont have any if we are playing on low ping servers. the servers i play on i generally have a ping of about 70-140 and they play smooth as silk. what kind of pings are you getting? and are you using wireless internet? that may have something to do with it. my point is, if i can play pr smoothly on high settings, someone with a better rig should be able to do the same.hypnotoad wrote:My specs are:

Bf2 is known to have issues with dual/multi core processors. Try turning off one of your cores, or looking for a hotfix. My bro fixed his up by turning off on of his cores so try that.

It could be the ISP or the way our router is configured. other than that it is more than fast enough for everything else other than BF2, include rpetty much every other game.charliegrs wrote:no its not BF2. you specs are way beyond mine, i run PR on high and i have zero lag. i suspect it is your internet connection. no one is "used to the lag" because i think most of us dont have any if we are playing on low ping servers. the servers i play on i generally have a ping of about 70-140 and they play smooth as silk. what kind of pings are you getting? and are you using wireless internet? that may have something to do with it. my point is, if i can play pr smoothly on high settings, someone with a better rig should be able to do the same.
I'm not quite sure how to disable one of the cores, and I'm not really about to do that for one game at the expense of every other game I play.
I guess, as usual, I will just wait for the next patch to see if anything has changed...

Re: Long list of suggestions + constructive critism
as others have said it could be internet related, perhaps you should forward your computer's ip address though your router's NAT firewall (you will lose the router's protection, but if you have a firewall on ur PC any you won't be unprotected)
if the router has a DMZ function, it's pretty easy.

Re: Long list of suggestions + constructive critism
well u didn't answer the wireless questions...if Ur gaming on wireless...that's the wrong answer. maybe turn off those hacks...lolz. anyway bro....i got a weak system and i play smooth. try seeing if anything is running in the background on Ur PC. usually for me i go to the "start button" hit "run" type in "msconfig" and disable the majority of those processes. but that's what i do. and if Ur on a network, someone else mite be downloading or using the net at the same time...all this can crate a lag spikes. so.....hope some of this helps

Re: Long list of suggestions + constructive critism
he right about the patch and lags
when i play Battlefield v1.00 (on my old pc ) i could play all medium and with map loading of about 1 min. after patch 1.21 ( i think or later ) i start to get some grafick lags so i reduse it to low\medium and map loading go for 1:30-2:00 min.
it maybe sound stuped and unbelivebale.but it is . my frinds that play BF2 too they notice it
