Mutual Support between Infantry and Armor

Post by DeltaFart »

Ok, here's a concept
Ever want to be able to drive as slow as the infantry walk, but are too lazy to press and release the accelerate keys?
Well this new method I've come up with is using your joystick.
Yes your joystick.
In my time on the trianing servers, I have found a viable way to allow the armror to stay next to the infantry when on the move with dismounted infantry.

there are two methods:
Throttle + twist or roll
or
Pitch + twist or roll

Basically you set the speed of the vehicle with your joystick, and you can keep it constant without the sudden starts and stops.

From there you can guess how the two can support each other like in those videos from Iraq or elsewhere

I tried it too, at first I was very happy but somehow, I can't manage to be as effective as when I use my keyboard and mouse.

Sad thing.

Hopefully Dev find a way to implement multiple speed controler.

Can you use the throttle in a similar manner to with helos where you set it to a certain level and then can use the keyboard keys but when you release them it returns to the default setting of the joystick throttle?

Still not as easy since you'd have to turn the throttle down when you wanted to stop.

You can control the speed of the helico with the joystick and stabilize it but I prefer mouse and keyboard for helicopter because its more stable and with my joystick (saitek x52) accelarating and decelarating as often as needed in a chopper is kinda annoying. Although, joystick are very useful with planes.

I like using the throttle for helo but the stick is utterly hopeless with it. It just takes more active use of the throttle to keep things stable and it is a bit of a learning curve but nothing beats an easily adjustable throttle for hovering.

However with a tank I think it could be a bit annoying, though I have rudder pedals meant for flying in flight sims with both sliding kicks to the left and right as well as toe pedals for each foot. I imagine I could use the pedals rotating the body of the tank and the toe pedals for controlling speed since they also have a variable threshold just like any pedal in a car.

Funny. But is it really that hard to tap W in a gentle rythm?

Yes :) Especially since fooling around with the little bird last night I found a throttle setting that created a perfect hover and I centred the controls just right so that I could just let go of all my controls and it literally didn't budge an inch.

Tapping W won't let you do that.

Well personally I prefer to just get the guys in the tank to slowly edge up and stop every few seconds. Here's a pic of Combined Arms: MILITIA STYLE :P

Coincidentally, I used a joystick there to drive the tank at a walking pace behind you guys, occasionally using the keyboard to leap ahead faster. The problem I always had with the setup was using both my joystick and mouse at the same time. I can operate the joystick with my left hand, leaving my right hand free to use the mouse, but I'm way more comfortable maneuvering with a keyboard, if quick responses are needed. I guess I could always try emulating the mouse with the hat switch.

Get a Track IR and shoot where you look. :)
