A radical suggestion: Remove all AAVs from the USMC

According to a post made by [R-DEV]Eddie Baker in this thread, the USMC no longer have any AAVs in service.

Instead of removing the Avngers before they get to the USMC, make the CROWS/SLARRAM(or whatever that its) and give it to them, considering this is supposed to be the future

ummm, not quite as radical as you think bob marley, name one current v0.8 or future v0.85+ map that has AAV's for USMC on it? ;)

That's because the Navy takes care of anti air for us and our 'normal' AO isn't 'normally' supposed to be very far inland.

Where did he get the information from? Also, I think that this decision may be influenced by the fact that our current wars are being fought against enemies who possess no real air power (this almost got the F-22 program canceled several years back), thus meaning that there's no urgent need for AA. How are the ingame Marines going to deal with enemy jets (unless you're not planning on putting anymore maps that have the Marines up against enemy aircraft other than helicopters)?

Yeah more MANPADS! But who will they USMC (in PR) have AAVs in the future?

Good luck killing jets with MANPADS. They have a really short range, long lock on time and the jet is flying pretty quickly and pretty high "up there."

The problem with using only Stingers is that in game, they have a very short range, just like Waaah_Wah said. In game, the range is 800 meters. In real life, they can engage past 4,000 meters. If we increase the range of the Stinger to a more realistic range and increase the amount of them on the ground, then jets wont be able to fly anywhere, and the people with Stingers will be much harder to detect, and therefore harder to destroy, than an AAV.

Another problem is that in game, tanks like to hang out with AAVs because of the protection they offer. If you removed AAVs, then the guy with the Stinger would have to have some other sort of transportation to go along with the tanks. The only thing that makes sense is the dirtbike, and other players would simply steal that. Plus, AAVs can lock and shoot while driving with Tanks, someone on a bike would not. There would be zero protection while moving. In real life, if there was a legitimate air threat, I don't think the Army or Marines would move out without an active AA vehicle/MANPAD right next to them.

I can't remember where I saw it but was their not a suggestion that the blast radius of AA missiles would be greatly increased to help missiles be more effective? SO the missile would expload when it got with in a certin distance away from the jet and the blast would do the damage? If I am wrong someone correct me but I thought their was a thread on this.

Being radical doesn't have to mean being stupid.

Just remove AAVs in maps where the opponent has no serious air power. AAVs in current USMC vs. Conventional maps can be seen to represent Navy AA support, and I can't see how they would be issued extra MANPADS instead of AAVs against that kind of foe.

Maybe something as radical as no AAVs against the Chinese Air Force would make a good asymmetrical map, but I wouldn't want to see the entire faction changed to that effect.

AS there is no map ingame now with major enemy airpower i'd say go!
Worst case: Maybe return the robot batteries on the Essex?

If there were no plans for maps with AAVs, there would be no announcement of the Avenger's replacing the Linebacker until a map existed to use it. Therefore, there must be something planned for USMC AAVs.

Stinger Range IRL : 1 to 8 kilometers
SA-7 Range IRL : 0.5 to 5.5 kilometers

MANDPAD Maximum Range in 0.809 : 750m

MANDPAD Maximum Range in 0.85 : maximum view distance on any map

There are no upcoming/planned maps where the USMC will require AA capabilities.
