My number 1 suggestion for .85

Post by charliegrs »

PLEASE please just remove the ability for armor to move without a gunner. Im getting so sick of people solo armoring, its something weve been dealing with for a long time now. No matter how long of a delay you put on the gunner seat, people are still gonna solo. I cant think of any other way to deal with this.

And i know we are going to hear the same old arguments we always hear when it comes to this:

"what if my gunner disconnects?" honestly how often does this really happen? i think this has happened to me twice since ive been playing pr {since .4} its such an uncommon occurence that i think its something we can deal with. and if your gunner disconnects, well then yes your stranded. have someone blow up the armor so it respawns.

"but im such an 1337 solo tanker man!!" i cant believe anyone actually defends this practice. and some people do. you should not be playing pr. stop wasting our armor assets and go back to vanilla where you belong.

if anyone has a better suggestion as to how to eliminate solo tankers, id love to hear it, but i cant think of one personally.

I don't like the idea. It's just another attempt to mod the players.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons do be able to drive without a gunner.
- Gunner or driver disconnects.
- Gunner or driver gets shot out (it happens).
- Gunner or driver bails for some unknown reason (it happens).
- Somebody is bringing a tank up to the rest of his squad (not ideal but it happens).
- Tanks can drive without a gunner in real life (its stupid to do it in combat though).

Where's the initiative to stop players from running circles in main and shooting their gun in the air for the entire round? Where's the initiative to stop players from constantly running into the enemy's field of fire? Where's the initiative to stop players from doing doughnuts with the commander's truck? Where's the initiative to stop armor assets from being parked in main with occupants? Where's the initiative to stop pilots landing in obviously hot zones? Where's the initiative to stop pilots from sitting next to your squad spamming "Get in! Get in!" when you don't want a ride? Where's the initiative to stop players from standing on ridges when you're trying to sneak around? Where's the initiative to stop players from smoking up your own position so you can't see? Where's the initiative to stop players from running in front of moving vehicles? Where's the initiative to stop bad pilots from flying? Where's the initiative to stop bad gunners from gunning? Where's the initiative to stop people from requesting limited kits when there is a high risk of them being killed? Where's the initiative to stop players from making tactically unsound decisions? Where's the initiative to stop gamers from being stupid?

Easy counter-solution:

Make it so that the gunner position does absolutely nothing without a driver. Solves the solo tanking and allow the true tank user to driver around to link up with squadmates, or any of SOLID KNIGHT's examples.

Maybe add engine warm-up time for the driver (5-10 sec.)? :?

I've not really seen much of this at all, partly due to the well adminned servers I frequent

Admining is preferable to buggering the poor man who's driver D/Ced

wow now that is a good idea. i like that even better. that sorta keeps everyone happy. good call.

and to the guy above me, i dont know what servers you play on, but the ones i play on are full of idiots who solo all the time. and not only that, but everytimes theres a new release {like the upcoming .85} and we get the vanilla idiot infestation, solo tanking becomes a BIG problem.

I disagree with the main suggestion for the reason statet in the post. Gunner might disconnect/get kicked/leave the tank or die for some reason/whatever.

I agree with this. Make the weapons unusable without driver. And get rid of the delay if this works, since there is no need for one anymore (well, at least not for that long of a delay).

I support Dude388's suggestion! It'll fix it I believe!

Dont make the tank not able to move but just so that you'll die in gunner position if there's no driver (or if don't wanna be mean, just make the turret locked).

Don't kill the gunner thats not a good idea. What if the gunners waiting for his driver to get in? It'll either just kill him or he'll bleed out and die in the middle of the map.

Gun should not work without a driver. It should not be able to turn or reload.

Somebody doesn't play enough insurgency. Gunners can be shot out, and I've had several times when my gunner had to quit out of PR altogether. And how can you say this is not a common occurrence? With the way PB has been working lately I'm sometimes surprised to see most servers more than half full with all the bougus kicks going around.

Also, Blow up the armor so it respawns? First of all how, now that Engies have no C4, and second of all if what we're seeing is correct, we'll get fined tickets for that now just like insurgency mode.

in this case the end more than justifies the means. i have played PR for way over a thousand hours. ( i wish i knew exactly how many) and i have never seen a crewman disconnect. it just doesnt happen. the likelyhood is less than 1%. and the fact that a single person taking an asset that ultimatly gets destroyed and costs tickets is selfish and everyone knows that it opposes teamwork.
