Nuff commie nonsense, boys!
Thanks for pointing out the geographical importance of Norway, Hexey!
I most certainly approve this such a map!

Indeed, just as the Nazis had a crapload of U-boats stationed on the west coast of occupied France to control the Atlantic, it would probably just as effective for the Russian Northern Fleet to station some vessels in Norway to control the northern Atlantic. If not, then I expect as you say it'd still certainly help them leapfrog over to Britain. The Norwegian coast is less than 300 miles from Scotland.HeXeY wrote:Icefree coast all the year, closer to USA, UK etc, to give us/you/them a reason to make a map like this ()

Even though I live in Vadsø, just across the fjord from Kirkenes, I must agree with you.Rebel-NOR wrote:I would say the best battle Norway vs. Russia would be at Kirkenes, either at the country side or in the city, think country side with hard terrain mountains, snow etc would be really good amd a Counter attack gamemode would be the best I think.

Have you forgotten Kamchatka?

I think it would have been cool.![]()
Great ideas! Just over the border from Russia, plus the right size for a combined urban/country-side armor battles map. Although the airport couldn't be represented, as it is in real life unfortunately. Then again, the scale of runways and proximity in the game, due to it's limitations is unrealistic anyway. It's something we just have to deal with.HeXeY wrote:Even though I live in Vadsø, just across the fjord from Kirkenes, I must agree with you.
The terrain in Vadsø is pretty much flat, completely. Not even a tree (almost.)
Whilst in Kirkenes there's more different terrain, flat areas, mountains, fjords etc
And Kirkenes Airport is in fact a military airfield, which Avinor (Norwegian company controlling all the airports, almost) rents.

The port at Novorossiysk is being redeveloped as a new naval base for the Black Sea Fleet, to replace the one at Sevastopol by 2012. But yeah, their only ice-free harbor will still be on the Black Sea. Though back to the subject of using Norway to invade the US, I imagine they'd air-drop into the west coast (Alaska, BC, California, Washington or Oregon, I dunno which), reinforced by an amphibious assault by the Pacific Fleet based in Vladivostok.FastWinston wrote:AFAIK Kamchatka is does not have an ice free, deep water harbor. The only one left in Russia after the fall of the USSR is Sevastopol in the Ukraine, which Russia rents. The problem is that the Ukraine won't prolong the rent longer then 2012, so then Russia would be without an ice free, deep water harbor. But in Abkhazia there are these types of facilities (at least one) (also in Poti in Georgia but Russia pulled out). One could speculate this to be a part of the reasons for Russia to enter Georgia, since it will be key for Russia to keep a felt pressence with it's expanding Navy.
@ jbgeezer: Hardangervidda would (mostly) be boring as hell! Passvikelva would be a natural area to fight the Russians (also regarding the amount of Norwegian troops in the area (not to many) a asymmetrical balance, natural between Norway and Russia, would be a given)
What a bout the dam complex south of hardangervidda, ever heard about Songa dam? In the army we where trained to place anti air weapons there tr prevent aircraft from destroying the dam and making a complete disaster. I live in the area, if I was good at mapping(which im not) I could have made a map. The sourrounding is a mixture of urban areas and forrests. Perfect id sayFastWinston wrote:
