Plus it is more realistic, having every player controlled, providing we have a good commander, it would be really fun. In the british army, when we radio a contact report, we request assistance, Arty, Air, etc...
So in PR we radio a contact report, and a request for arty. Section Commander (Squad Leader) or whoever has the GLMT 'lases' the target area. The commander then sends that to the Royal Artillery Squad then they pound the area.
Just like in real life. You send it up through the chain of command, it usually works.

Ideally for maps like Kashan. (for the British) Squads for me would be

Royal Artillery,
Royal Logistics (Transport and Supply)
Royal Air Force/Army Air Corps/Fleet Air Arm
Royal Dragoon Guards
Infantry

And everything would go through the commander.

You sure? Is artillery located so close to the front as it would be on a map like Kashan IRL?

I am not in the Royal Artillery but what I do know and that is the R.A. is deployed as close as needs be. But don't forget this is still a game, and there does have to be some give. Kashan maybe 4km2 and Yes the L118 light gun has a range of 17.2km. But if you are talking in the grand scheme of things, Artillery may be very close to the frontline depending on the current status of operations.

A Map like Kashan could support Mobile Artillery Vehicles and Artillery Emplacements, the real big guns for a real big map. A Map like Korengal or Assault on Mestia would support Mortars and small artillery. Fit the asset to the map and all that.

Indeed

I like the idea of just leaving it alone.

I works fine, it doesnt annoy anyone, its timed well (ok mybe the time could be decreased slightly) but in all it works pefectly fine (apart from when a JDAM hits a tree/wall/roof/stone and detonates but does minimal damage to the surrounding area :razz :)

The mods have left the thread open for some reason or another, so I believe the debate is sanctioned. It may have been discussed, but not doing anything does nothing for the issue. Artillery is a real life asset called upon in many situations we face in PR, yet the only option we have is on some maps we get either a light mortar barrage, an artillery barrage or a JDAM which can land on top of you and as long as you're in a non destructible asset you're fine, and the times for these extremely underpowered "Area Attacks" is ridiculous. Give it to the players, let them work with it.

Maybe I should have written: Current artillery support is too rare, make them more common!
Hey artillery IRL is frequently used, im not talkin about the really big guns, but mortars and light artillery.

There is a neutral ground between once every 2 minutes and once every hour.

I don't think Artillery should be a very big part in PR!

Seriously it is a game of 64 players on one map at the most, most of them being within one squarekilometer. Real artillery eg. some MRLS can cover that area in one strike... Most artillery can wipe out the maps in minutes.

I think its good how it is now with few smaller artillery.
IMO the things that should be concentrated on isntead, should be the Manned airstrikes from Planes amd choppers.

Maybe also if some kind of mortar system could be added.

As has been said many, many times before: the team are always looking at the issue of "Commander Toys" and will revise the period between artillery strikes as they feel appropriate each release.

Hideous oversight on my end of things, very sorry, will rectify the problem forwith.
