Hand Grenades

Post by weidel »

I made a short forum search on this topic, and it does not seem like anyone have made any suggestions about it yet, so here we go:

At the moment soldiers can throw very long and deadly accurate with the hand grenades, while using a grenade launcher on the run yields a serious (and realistic) deviation.

I would like the throw to have a similar deviation and in general be shorter. However, anybody who have tried to throw a grenade while lying down, knows that doing so, makes the throw very inaccurate and very short compared to a throw from standing or crouching position. I would also like to see that implemented.

So please, make the grenade throwing more realistic. That would also yield a more realistic use of grenades :-D

For those of you who have not had the chance of throwing grenades, I suggest you take a trip into your backyard and see how accurate and how far you can throw a rock while being prone, crouching and standing and also while on the move

again we have supurb reasoining from Camper, i agree weidel. Grenade throwing needs to be adjsuted slightly, and your point about when lying down should be consired and possibly changed soon.
AT present is not that realistic.

Well pointed out weidel, grenades do need to be adjusted slightly.

However only distance should be affected when in different stances (obviously reducing the lower you go), I can achieve the same level of accuracy when throwing heavy objects in various stances whilst only my potential range decreasing.

Though movement should make grenades innacurate, would make soldiers think twice about hurling grenades while on the move if it rebounds off somehting.

I am not sure wether Solitas supports the inaccuracy thing, but I'll try to clarify why I find it important.

From what I've seen in my soldiering life, many soldiers have a real hard time being decently accurate when throwing from a prone position. I guess this inaccuracy comes with how long one is attempting to throw. So for a short throw (5-10 meters), the accuracy is equally good wether standing or prone and Solitas is actually correct. If I try however to hit a foxwhole (approx an area of 0.75x2 meters) on a distance of 15 meters I usually do not hit it.

I cannot count the number of times I have died on exercises because somebody was trying to hit a foxhole with a grenade from prone position and hit a neighboring object instead. I also have a problem counting the number of times somebody have aimed for a window and hit the wall beside it instead. :? ??:

To sum it up: Grenades are actually pretty inaccurate weapons, and there is a good reason why I have been told only to use them in special circumstances. 8)

Surely throwing range would increase on the run, and surely it'd hardly have an effect on accuracy, most people can throw better while running. In order of skill with a grenade, I'd put it:

Moving standing
Standing
Crouching
Moving crouching
Prone
Moving prone

Throwing rules are completely different from shooting rules, unlike rifles you don't get more accurate because you have more balance, so throwing should definetely be adjusted accordingly.

Hehe, I partially agree with the inaccuracy thing. Inaccurate throws may occur when trying to perfom while moving, otherwise the normal accuracy may stay.

EDIT: Posted this before reading the previous post. :|

Fair enough, I have no military experience so obviously you'll know better.
Also about the prone distance/accuracy theory, weidel pretty much got it bang on. I'm not saying you CAN'T throw beyond your potential accurate range but if you do your less likely to hit your target.
Not sure how you could implement this though, grenades accuracy depends on throw power and stance?

I have no military experience, but I've done plenty of sport in my time and like Weidel said, just go out in your backyard and throw a rock around while jogging, standing, crouching, crouching and moving, laying flat on the floor and crawling flat on the floor. You'll find the order I mentioned is what you'll get.
