Insurgents sniping into US main on Korengal
As an insurgent on Korengal valley you can snipe into camp Murphy easily from the surrounding mountains. I just noticed on the TG server where the admins were doing it (sigh). RPGs and grenades are also easy to lob in, and it's almost impossible to figure out where it's coming from. It also can make the littlebird impossible to fly, since you are such an easy target while waiting for it to warm up. Maybe this requires a dome of death stretching into the mountains?

When it comes to insurgents, I think there is little wrong with attacking Coalition main bases.
The insurgents are limited to these underdog tactics, just as IRL; such as VBIEDs,IEDs, hit and run, sniper resistance and rocket/mortar attacks.
The point of insurgents is to protray armed-struggle tactics, wich guerilla assaults on important enemy fortifications is just part of that.
Its the form of 'Asymetrical balance', where a smaller and worse equiped force uses these tactics to counter the convetional, larger force who employs many different tactics.

The hill to the south of the camp is already restricted, as soon as you pop over the peak the dome of death kicks in.
I do agree that some cover wouldn't hurt, perhaps some net camo cover over Humvee and truck spawns, or some trees that block the view into the base itself..?

TG Admins were doing it because the rule on TG allows insurgents to do so. Yes i've flown the little bird on TG before, it is easy as hell to get out. At that range, the insurgents have to fire at least from 200 meters away. Trust me that is a very far range with Grenade Launchers with lots of deviation. All you have to do us just pop smoke around the chopper before hopping in.
After all, that is what smoke grenades are for. Even though the rotors do blow them away, they give you enough cover to take off. And don't fly to low and slow. Those AK rounds really hurt the little bird. I shot one down last night with my AK as it was landing. lol it felt awesome!
On last tip. Instead of landing in Camp Murphy. Hover and do small circles around the Command Post to constantly repair. By doing circles, you are almost impossible to hit with GL's or RPGs. I know its kind of vanilla-like, but THAT is how you survive.

Uh-huh. And it was just a coincidence that the admins were on INS
I don't think the US main should be 100% safe on any map, but there's really no way to counter a sniper in the mountains on korengal without a massive manhunt. And as long as they have a perfect view of the helipad, it's like you don't have a LB. It also doesn't strike me as realistic - do you ever hear about snipers shooting into the green zone or even a FOB in Afghanistan?

as far as afghanistan, uh some of the FOBs come under attack daily.

I was on Korengal and NOBODY could get into the LB cause as it was warming up it would constantly be fired on and the pilot inevitably killed.
Really the rest of its fine. I don't care if INS can attack the main cause its the USs fault that they're able to be that close, or you just live with it cause thats fewer insurgents defending caches. However I don't think its particularly realistic to have such an expensive asset completely vulnerable to an enemy sniping from the hills. If they can do it with a rifle they can RPG the LB on the pad.

To even get the LB you have to take Laniyal, so you should have a squad clear the hills before even trying to take off?
Most times when I am US Army on Korrengal I will set up a firebase in main just to be able to put protective measures where I want and also to have another two humvees spawn. If someone can direct the .50 cal emplacements then the sniper will be the one under heavy fire.

Radical suggestion, shoot back. Yeah, they're sniping into main, yeah it's hard to get the LB up, simple way around this is to grab a Grenadier Kit, smoke up the mountains then have a squad watch the mountains until the bird is up. Teamwork and tactics will prevail over any obstacle.

HA I was in on this game last night. I see no problems doing this as its not your only spawn.
The problem was 75% of the team was spawning at the main base. Thats your first problem. The map offers two starting points and I always recommend spawning at the outpost. Our squad spawned there, then built a bunker, then waited for humvees. All while the rest of the team was being killed left and right at the main. Hell we didn't get a single contact while we where up there. We got tired and left.
We ended up taking Layial with no opposition. This is why you got your littlebird, because someone else played right. When ever a game starts, ever INS makes a run for the main base...so dont spawn there. Let them sit in ambush mode for the first 5 minutes until they realize that the majority of the team spawned somewhere else.
I hate to sound like I dont care but the map was designed to put pressure on the US. And if you dumb enough to keep spawning there over and over then your gonna die. The other thing I noticed was there were very few people in "base defense mode". Its wasent until I jumped on one for the six forward facing 50 cal that I saw other starting to help.
Bottom line, stop whoring it for Humvee's and start thinking about the field.
Mappers tips
- Spawn one squad at the main as a distraction and mount all the 50cals.
- Rest of the team spawn at outpost have one squad defend. You should have a good view of the valley floor. Use spotters.
- Build a FOB
- Clear OPFOR spawn points in the area
- Forget Layial, it give you a useless heli and a Striker which gets destroyed immediately
- Clear all caches in the valley first, Opfor rules the hills.
- Leave Camp Murphy on foot to the north, forget the roads.
- Biggest tip, make sure the outpost doesn't fall into enemy hands! INS can use the 50s as well.

I suggest creating some cover, smoke, park a co truck in front as they are built like tanks and easily take rpgs
There is no helipad afaik, just a co post and the lb should be parked the other side of the wall
