I played vBF2 a little earlier tonight, I have been playing PR for so long now (since v0.5) that I have been disgusted by vBF2 players behavior... Seriously...

The entire team was going totally lonewolf, even choppers... Absolutely no care for survivability... Chopper pilot fighting to the death instead of returning to repair, crazy infantry charging armor, no squad communication... etc. etc.

Awful but very easy... I managed to get one of the top score in a few minute joining mid game... If you are good at PR you will most likely be elite at vBF2...

It's basically a bunch of lonewolf banzai soldiers running at the enemy spamming munitions like maniacs to see who can get the highest score. Because of the focus on individual scores, no one cares about teamwork, despite the fact that organized teams almost always beat lonewolves.

PR also has a number of cosmetic improvements that I like better, the first and foremost being GUNS THAT SOUND LIKE GUNS. BF2 looks like a war game graphically, but the sound effects scream "Extreme Paintball" to me. PR not only looks like war, but with the crack of gunshots in the distance and the rat-tat-tat of machine guns, it gives you the feeling of actually being in the thick of WWIII, something that BF2 utterly fails at.

I still play vBF2 :P , if you ever get shock-paddled, AT-nubtubed or flashbanged then knifed by some belligerent player named ChinaPower552 on an infantry only map, yeah, that's me

I actually find that game quite entertaining either when I'm brain dead after a long day or got nothing to do during a short break.

Mostly cos the name of the choice is already taken, so they either type in some random numbers, date of birth, or their location? :p

Why do you put a v before BF2?

The V stand for "Vanilla", meaning the original version of BF2
[R-DEV]Jaymz - If it wasn't for the F-18's incompetence, "Independence Day" would have ended half-way through.

oh god aint played vBF2 in ages

i remember for my sumemr holidays i was going to whore BF2 so i could get to general
turns out that my mate had just tried PR on a whim, so i had to have a go with him
played one round on basrah as defence of the VCP (pointless i know now but it seemed the right thing to do)

hooked on PR since, aint looked back, though i might on day... ok probably not if i want fast paced arcade gameplay all i have to do is replace "B" with "T".

Anyone know any good realism mods other then PR?
Need to find something which is more on the right track.

Is there anything coming out for the new BF engine?

Try Operation Flashpoint or Armed Assault. And then buy VBS1 with it.

I was a VBS beta tester and map builder.
Where did I put my dongle? :-)

Got a really good VBS example of realism and how sandbox realism works.

We had a 16-17yo who played with us, good guy, mature etc. He joined the
ADF at 18 and after never firing a real rifle in his life became main
gunner for his section. He was a crack shot with a Steyr not because of
experience in real-life but in-part because ballistics in OFP/VBS were
very well modelled.

There is a question in another thread on what % of the time you should be
able to hit a moving target at range. Well in VBS, it's not a random bit
of math but instead your skill and knowledge of the weapon that make the
hit happen.

Model everything correctly and realism is a side-effect.

Forcing the game mechanics to generate squad tactics that someone believes
to be "realistic" on the other hand is completely miss-guided.

Well if you want realistic sniper ballistics, try out the WOoKie Sniper mod. Gameplay is deathmatch style, so take it with a grain of salt. But otherwise I really enjoyed it, and I've someimes seen people from the pr forums on it.

Stalemates at EJOD. Bad squadleaders, bad squadmembers (no offense to anyone Ive been in a squad lately :p ) ect ect.
A bit of everything that doesn't make PR fun to play.

So out of boredom, I decided to start up vBF2 once again. I was suspecting everything that every PR player says about vBF2 and that I would leave the server screaming!
But I was very disappointed.
Yes I DID encounter dolphin divers / 1337 kids / vehicle raping / nade spammers. But it didn't bother me at all. I actually had fun.

No fear of blowing your cover and getting killed. Just pick a gun and run shooting. Wasted a tank? No problem, a new one spawns in just a sec.

Don't get me wrong, I still love PR, but I needed a bit of a break of it, and playing vBF2 for a short hour (played 4 maps in 1 hour) was a nice change of pace. Also it made me realize what an amazing thing the DEVs made out of the game.
youre just like me.... i also need a break after playing PR for a couple of weaks
