Basically you want the rifle sounds to be louder to make them more like real life? I'd agree with that, but only a bit louder else I wouldn't be able to hear the voip

for the VOIP think i go in and turn the VOIP voice over to 100% and back the other down to 60 to 75%

i know im going to kill my sound system again. or at least have the cops at my door because of it. but its kinda cool to make your PC desk shake wan a helo flying over you lolz

A word of caution though.
If you are listening to the game at the same volume level as it would be IRL, you will damage your hearing sooner or later.

I keep all of my sound turned down because the excess noise bothers everyone else in my house. I also have issues hearing others over VOIP, but that seems to be a Battlefield 2 problem. I have all sound except for the VOIP down to about 50-60%

And cause progressively worse hearing damage as your mom won't be crashing your party any time it gets too loud.

That's the nice thing about speakers; you won't ever get it loud enough to hurt your ears if people are always bothered by it. Usually the noise level that bothers people is lower than that which makes you deaf as your grandma.

You have to watch out for SPL (Sound pressure level) which in laymans terms is volume. The thing is with the term "volume" is that it is used in a strange ways. Basically you can make something sound very loud without necessarily having a high SPL (something alot of pro audio companies are into, especially for live sound cos people want to "rock" at big festivals and hear everything and it to sound really in their face, but not hear their poor ears, pussies!).

This can get messy (to my understanding) when your using headphones since they are so close to your ears, so they will sound loud, but very definitely be a very high SPL due to their enclosed nature. Especially be careful if your headphones aren't very good quality, nasty quality amps and speakers make things alot more damaging for your ears.

Again, to reiterate, just cos something SOUNDS loud doesn't mean it's bad for your hearing (only to a certain extent of course), but conversely just cos something seems relatively quiet doesn't mean that you aren't also doing alot of damage to your ears, maybe without you even feeling it.

The best advice I can give is when it hurts, turn down straight away to a reasonable level, then, if you wanna keep your hearing pretty decent for a few decades, turn down even more.

Sooner.

The tip about turning the in game volume down to 60-70& and keeping VoIP at 100% is good advice if you wanna hear it more clearly, the VoIP level is ridiculously low. Hope Jaymz had changed the levels a bit for .85, if it's possible obviously, that'd be sweet.

Ambient game noises are being reduced slightly for .85... weapons should sound comparatively louder over background noises :)
