PR future file size?

Post by NyteMyre »

With 0.8 already being over 2GB of download files, what will the future be for future releases?

0.85 will release Russian forces including a map, and with Canadian and Israeli (maybe) coming in 0.9 and still German / Dutch / Australian / Polish / Norwegian (thats 5 factions for 0.9+) in the making, I see black days for file sizes.

Well, ive got 2TB external + 1TB internal and 2MB/s DL(in optimal conditions), so i'd say, keep it coming!^^(whoops,, i think me e-penis just slipped outta my e-fly, exucse me a sec ;) )
On a more serious note, most modern games use up way more space, so this still is a moderate file size.
Still, the devs should look around for some sorta patching technology(im sure theres something opensource out there).

Problem is I have a montly download limit (60gb) and there are a bunch of other people who use it too. So 5gb filesize + frequent new versions to test -> pain.

I could care less what file size they are. The price of storage is nothing to the price of pwnage. (patent pending :P )

Plus, there is always an extra hardrive.

Well, I dont think its out of line for me to say the team is working on cleaning up the mod of unused things trying to make it contain only whats used..

But aside from that, I cant really tell you its not gonna keep growing. :\

To be honest though, you shouldnt even be playing any other game :)

Heh, I kid, but yeah... 'unfortunately' the file size will probably continue to grow, but look on the bright side! All that new content!

Maybe bum a library's net, or a friend's? Friends are fun to use :)

It takes me around 8 hours or so do download each release... but considering it's quite a few months between releases, one day of downloading doesn't seem like so much.

SHARE UR BANDWITH OR BAN :D

I can get it in 2 hours or so,using torrent so i can save it if it takes a while, even if it would be 10 gigs i would still download anyway,as long as content is great

its not like you download a new version of this game every other week. i think its something like on average every 6 months we get a new version? i wouldnt care if it was 80 gigs. the smart thing to do is save the files on a dvd after you download them, and keep them with your bf2 cds like i do, just in case you have to reformat your pc for some reason. you dont have to re-download the files. so really you should only ever have to download the files once.

its a small price to pay, you want more content in game, its gonna increase the file size. i hope the devs dont decide one day that too many people are complaining about file sizes and decide to release less content or something. id say if it really does get to be too big maybe it can just be split up into parts? like core file parts 1,2,3, levels part 1,2,3 etc
