Vehicle speed next to inf
Hi,
I have been playing this mod since 0.4, and i has inproved quite a lot. But what is still bothering me is the speed of vehicles.
1. Why do we have a turbo??
We all want to drive as fast to a flag as we can so the speed of the turbo should be added to the orginal speed. With is the fastest.
2. That leaves the Shift button free for something else. Like a slower driving speed for driving next to inf. That has been bothering me, because when driving a tank or apc you always have to stop and wait for your inf, and if you ask me it will make things more realistic. Because right now you can realy control the speed of your verhicle (only the turbo), without tapping the W key.
So what im asking = the top speed of the vehicles(+turbo) on W, and the slow inf speed on Shift + W. Its a small change that makes it easy to drive next to the inf without having to stop wait and go ect.

If i got your idea right it sounds like a great idea.
It will get much more easier to patrol areas with HMWs and armored tanks and also making it alot easier for Infantry to stay covered behind the TAnk/APC while both Infantry and Tank are moving towards the enemy.
If your playing as tank driver with those tacts its very hard since your have to tap the W button all the damn time
But with the Shift+W it would make the game 5% less harder
and 5% more realist.

Think outside the box.. Make button W be the sprint, and button shift+W be the standard speed aka "infantry speed" =)Jonny wrote:You cant do that, it just wont work. The sprint speed MUST be faster, or it just does nothing. I already tried it.

you can't do that...[R-CON]Deer wrote:Think outside the box.. Make button W be the sprint, and button shift+W be the standard speed aka "infantry speed" =)
you also need to be holding w for sprint to work...
the only way to really be able to control your speed well in PR is to simply get a foot pedal throttle game controller like this:

I actually feel good with the Turbo (shift) system, I think it simulate good the real driving possibility when waiting for RPM to go high before shifting or going on 4x4... Since this is not possible on PR and it makes some PR vehicles really 4x4 sometimes. Very useful.
About the inf. speed thing, its been discussed a lot on the forum and we figured a way to do it, simply using gaming wheel pedals only. Not the wheel because usually, it stop you from moving head (camera) around and other stuff, just using the pedals gets the job done real good allowing you to move at inf speed or whatever speed you like.
Supporting infantry with armor or mounted 50cal on light transports at inf speed is very nice.
Edit: Just like Rhino said

huh? are movement and sprint keybindings hardcoded ?! and well ofc you would need to hold W down to make the sprint work, just like you need to hold W down to move forward, i dont understand =p'[R-DEV wrote:Rhino;889858']you can't do that...

well you can swap the keys around client side in the control settings but as for the mod you can't.
As for the foot pedals and how much they cost, dunno, I dont own any, yet
I've considered getting these but these are more rudder pedals (ie, not for driving by flying) but you could probably set them up quite easily so that they could do vehicle throttles, would just be a little odd as the brake pedal would come at you as you push the accelerator

EDIT:
Rudder Pedals
£100 thou for them

Re: Vehicle speed next to inf
Instead of shelling out cash for a pedal set, you could use the throttle control on a joystick (if you have one that is.)
Could the vehicle be simulated to "Crouch" and go at a lower speed, so using Ctrl instead of shift to slow it down? This would, unfortunately remove the free-view cam (Do you need to hold Ctrl to free-cam in vehicles? I don't drive a lot, if you've been in one of my squads you'll know why lol.)

main problem with this is a joystick flight throttle dose not have spring back, which is something you really need for a ground vehicle...[R-COM]VoXiNaTiOn wrote:Instead of shelling out cash for a pedal set, you could use the throttle control on a joystick (if you have one that is.)

If I need to use a 'cruise control' whilst driving, like moving at walking pace in any vehicle, I have my game controller in my left hand.

its only if you really want to be able to control your speed properly, I know of a few ppl in TG etc that use these foot pedals while driving there tanks and not only is it soo much easier to drive with, ie, not always having to constantly hold down w, but also they can control there speed just enough so there gunner can easily fire on the move when going around 1/2 the normal speed of a tank which makes there effectiveness far grater than a tank that has to basically stop to shoot, all they need to do is slow down a little
Also the only place it looks like your going to find a driving foot pedal on its own is really on ebay if your lucky as they seem to come with steering wheels, there is a nice cheap one here for £40 thou the pedals dont look that grate: http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/r220.htm

Im cheap, and a lot of the time when i buy stuff like that in the past it has either fallen apart, or is rubbish. theres got to be a software solution to this. like a keybind that works outside of the game where you use the nubpad as a throttle. you know...for the cheapoes!

I dont understand, if a throttle can give a speed value of X why cant a key?

When shooting the 0.85 teaser, we had some guy driving the tank with his joystick, so we could keep up while running next to / behind it. I believe pedals are much easier, but joysticks work as well.
The only thing you may be able to add to vehicles is the "taxi" mode, like jets have it.

A key is "on" or "off", to put it that way. A joystick (or pedals) can have different values, sort ofDr2B Rudd wrote:I dont understand, if a throttle can give a speed value of X why cant a key?

Re: Vehicle speed next to inf
you see its the difference is that a foot pedal throttle can give you a % of throttle, pushing "W" only gives you 100% throttle, letting go only gives you 0% throttle.Dr2B Rudd wrote:I dont understand, if a throttle can give a speed value of X why cant a key?
you may be able to use some kinda macro so that it acts like "tapping W" over and over at the same pace to give you a speed you want but it still wouldn't be that good.

Why not use the Joystick like you use it to taxi jets, just push forward it springs back like a throttle i guess.

Re: Vehicle speed next to inf
is there a way I can make my joystick throttle go from 100% throttle to 0% throttle without going in to reverse?
thats my main problem tbh, that I can't stop using the joystick.
I'd like to be able to control my speed, but only go into reverse using the S key
