Marine Recon weapons?
I was just wondering what weapons are availiable for use by Marine Recon units. Im not up on the status of the S.C.A.R. but I would think Recon units would be given all the newest and best gear availiable just like other Spec Ops units. Anyone know?
The reason I was wondering is that I think the Marine Spec Ops should get a different weapon if that is the case to their real life counterparts.

If I'm not back in 5 minutes, just wait longer.

sorry dont know, what role would this play in PR realisticly, cos the markesman has excellent spotting abilies, on par with any recon man and mabey better.
Personally i really hate the spec opps, due to being so unrealistic. Spec opps could be a whole team like in SF and not one silly combined class. Its M4 should be given out to a new class or exsistting one, C4 to engi ext.
But if the Marine recon could act as a point man i would be happy. Goign ahead, spotting enemies, SL then sendin appropriate orders to either kill or avoid or defend = teamwork.
He would also be a perfect class for an laser targetting devise thiny.
BUt i also feel that only a very small number of this class would be required in a game and it might be overused if, happering squads and he could also be too powerfull compared to normal rifle or grenade man, completeling screwing up the present but not completely dodged teamwork system.
But i like it very much, he would need to be faily weak (limited mag number, armour ext.) but with carefull consideration he could play a vital and an extremely important role.

Force Recon use a large range of weapons, ranging from M4's up to M14 SOPMOD's.

America was a tad late into the First World War. They redeemed themself's and came in slightly sooner in the Second. Now they seem determined to start the Third.

Huh?
If the Recon class was even made, which it may not be, why would it be ANYTHING like a marksman?

becauase, recon have benocs that can see objects at long distance and can spot enemies WHILE markesmen alos have benocs and a powerfull scope on their rilfe therefore THEY CAN ALSO SPOT ENEMIES AT LONG RANGe plus they can take them out at extreme range unlike the recon whos range is no more than a normal m16 soldier.

You guys are so un-informed.M14? let's check first how SPR will work out...
And i agree M14 wouldn't fit it IMO too...

The M14 SOPMOD is a special operation mod of the M14, used by Special operations teams as well as some infantry units. Its supposed to be to the M14, what the M4 was to the M16. That's to say, its not a sniper rifle. Its a battle rifle, although it can be modified for marksman shooting.
Also, the M14 WOULD fit into the game, as the M14 DMR is the marksman weapon for the Marines, making it a realistic choice.

It's not a scope, it's an Aimpoint (red dot scope). I also put them far forward on the rail, simply because it don't need to be right in your face blocking your view, and it's easier to use the iron sights.Malik wrote:Yeah, that's one sexy gun, but why's his scope so far forward?
Vertical grips are lovely and comfy. Makes it way easier to lean your rifle above obstacles and cover.Malik wrote:And I'm not a big fan of forward handgrips either.Kinda looks like a G36 doesn't it?

And think about the aimpoint being far forward like it is. The 68 is pretty much a "tube" that's a few inches long. If it's forward like that, it takes less time to get that dot on someone. If it's closer to your face, you have to bring the weapon full up to get that dot on the target. It's only like a few milliseconds difference, but that few milliseconds could cost you your life.Malik wrote:Top Cat, that's a whole different topic.

And it helps to steady my aim. I like em. I'd rather have the bipods though.K.Larsen wrote:It's not a scope, it's an Aimpoint (red dot scope). I also put them far forward on the rail, simply because it don't need to be right in your face blocking your view, and it's easier to use the iron sights.

As it is, the Spec Ops class needs to be removed from maps designed around conventional ground forces. Of course, the SF expansion holds a concept that should be applied in vanilla BF2's Project Reality. We could use each team's respective special operations forces for specific missions. Also whats with the obsession of having the littlebird on virtually every map featuring a transport chopper. Last I heard the littlebird was used in Special Operations not to transport Marines off their carriers into front lines.
