New High Speed Mirror

Post by GreenLED »

I have been trying to get a hold of the proper people to post a new high-speed mirror that will be hosting PR. I haven't been able to find these people or they have not returned my PMs. Does anybody have any ideas?

So... do you want to add a mirror or are you looking for one?

"We will only accept direct downloads for all other hosts.
If you can provide such a link, Contact Us."

Just wait until they can verify the authenticity of the link and they should write you back !

I have contacted them. Here's the issue. Why "direct link only"? I have a direct link, but why not send people to the page where they can click "Download Now"? I have a "direct link" of sorts that when the page loads, it will begin the download -- in the same fashion as Source Forge . net has. Do they only want direct links because of spam or something? What's the reason behind this?

I think the mirrors that are usually on for the new patches are fine, except some have queues.

Look guys, I know you have some good points. The problem with most mirrors is that they are disorganized as far as the page layout goes, and they confuse people. So, I get that. Therefore, I think the selected mirrors should be chosen on a case by case basis. You can understand how expensive and how time consuming it is to setup and manage a mirror. The argument about making money on ads? -- What are you giving back (this site) to the mirrors in the first place? A link? Heavy traffic? You can't possibly believe that that's a fair exchange. So, if the mirrors make money on ads this is a worth while option for them. You're giving a mirror a reason to come to you and host your file. Not only that, you'll attract more mirrors! This is beneficial for this mod! So, I can't understand why you'd want direct links only. My last point is this... When you handout a direct link, it can be the kiss of death to a mirror. Surely you understand the amount of leaching that goes in a mirror site. So, for someone to give you a direct link to over 2.7 gb with no strings is insanity. I'd like to in defense of this site say that I completely understand why you would want only a direct link. Especially because people don't understand how to navigate around other sites. THIS IS PERFECTLY understandable. So, you then have to be more selective, which yes can be a pain, but I think it's your only option. Take a look at stablefiles.net and see for yourself how download links STICK OUT like a sore thumb. Sorry I'm going off on this long rant here, but you SURELY must realize that mirrors need some sort of payoff for their work -- to say NOTHING of stablefiles.net's over 1 meg per second download speed. I would be mad to offer that for nothing for files as big as these. Final thought and I'll quit. I am so excited to offer huge files like these because it means I put out my brand as a high-powered mirror that delivers every time a mirror that's STABLE. So, it's not that I'm not willing to give you guys another notch on the mirror list, but there has to be some sort of payoff in the end. Someone pays the bills when all is said and done. Hopefully I haven't left any sour grapes in your mouth, that is NOT my intention here. That's not my style.
