Heh, I was a HAT in a sniper squad along with a sniper, LAT, and AA kit. We managed to destroy most of the APCs, helicopters, and boats before they had a chance to really do anything. Really, it depends on what you're doing. What if, like in my situation, the guy with the HAT in the sniper squad is in a good position to engage the enemy? I mean, from where I was at I could easily hide and not have to worry about getting flanked if I was noticed and I could engage about half the map.

Really, the HAT shouldn't be on the streets with the infantry. Yeah, they might want it real bad but it could end up being short lived. In contrast I never died (stayed far away from the fighting) and managed to wipe out 50+ of the enemy.

... and I always could jump into the screen and put my hands around a throat of snipers running at the frontlines...
... and loosing the kit after 1 minute...

So, if you wanna be sniper then do it right, RECON for the team and take out important targets from a safe loooonngg range... Else, go and play Vanilla with the sniperkit at the frontlines ;)

I agree, that the HAT should not stand directly at the rest of the squad when engaging anemy armour, BUT the HAT could go to a better spot while the rest of squad will get the atention of the armor...

Its also ok if a HAT will go alone or as an AT squad, but I highly disagree with the combination HAT and sniper. How can a sniper be stealth if theres a big banger right at his side?

only if you're a dumb squad leader would you put the HAT on the ground like that, the more mics connected to the HAT = the more eyes connected to the HAT = More likely to spot and destroy targets, be protected from infantry and if teh HAT goes down you wont have to lose the sniper kit to pick it back up.

You may have got a great kill streak with teh kit, but most of the time when the sniper squad takes the kit all they do is sign the death warrants of the infantry squads.

You use the sniper to augment the HAT. He's got a high powered scope so he can help pick out targets that are way in the distance. I had him point out targets that I couldn't even see. Wiped out big clusters of infantry that way. (I know somebody is going to whine about not using the HAT on infantry but when you've already killed the APCs you might as well help out). I've done this many times before and it generally has a high level of success.

...then you got stupid enemies. If I would see many of my teammates/armor getting killed from a hat in the hills I would search for them to give my team a clear way into the sector, and believe me, you wouldn't survive long and in combination with that your team would loose a sniperkit as well if he sticks with you ;)

But this is off topic, this thread was regarding the technical side of a snipersquad, not about tha HAT :D

Eh, it's not like they didn't try. But in order to get to me they had to fight through my entire team and of course I'd be shooting at them. And remember, I'm hitting things on the edge of the draw distance (and sometimes beyond with some good intel). It's not as easy to retaliate as you may think especially since I put my squad in a position where it is impossible or just really, really hard to flank me. I think about stuff like that. It's not like I find any old place with a nice attack angle.

Anyway, I'm just saying that having a sniper and HAT combination can be beneficial. I know it's not exactly conventional.

2 for a sniper squad is fine. Problem is, once you die, your pretty useless.

I can tell you one thing: I barely ever kill sniper teams with a sniper and a spotter. When it comes to lonewolf snipers, I knifed so many I could cover the Essex in their ghillie suits. This is probably partially due to the fact that lonewolf snipers tend to put themselves in situations where they get killed easily. Still, I'd think two men is better than one when it comes to detecting sneaky ******** trying to stab you in the back (or, as is the case with many lonewolf snipers with tunnel vision, the front).

And that is why people get pissed off.... sry for the hard words, but it is as it is.

I always check on mapstart if the guys in my squad have voip or at least hear me, if not theyy get kicked after I've told them to at least answer.
If someone joins and answers but then gets the sniperkit ALTHOUGH I said I don't wanna sniper in my squad and then he leaves without saying anything, I really get mad...

BUT for me its ok if someone joins and ASKS if he can request sniper to then get out again, so I can ask a SM to leave for a slot and then join as soon as the sniper gets out. For then I still have a full squad and I can organize it BEFORE the map starts rather than seeing 2 secs after map start an empty slot in the squad.

... and what is that with your point 1 "...prefer a VOIP / TW squad"? I just can hope that your post was ironic...

can we get back to the original topic?
Problem is, one can only request the sniper kit in a squad of 3 or more. How am I supposed to create a sniper squad from scratch?

would the devs consider to lower the the request limit for the sniper and spec op kit to 2 in a squad?

Well, create a Recon squad and you'll find many people wanting to join, I'm sure. And if not, simply ask some squads to let you in so you can request a sniper kit while you wait for another player to fill your squad.

As to your second question, you only need two people already for the special kits. Special kits are the following: Heavy AT, Sniper, Spec Ops, and Anti Air.

Limited kits such as the Automatic Rifleman (LMG), Grenadier, marksman, Officer, and Rifleman AT require 3 people to a squad.

Finally Crewman and Pilot kits have no limitations, only that you request them next to a vehicle.
