Sounds a bit odd to me, seeing how the UK is involved in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the US is spread thin in the Mid East as it is....

I thought I made my point clear enough.

The reason JGSDF idea never took off is because people kept saying "it's not realistic", when the fact is, pitting the Russians against the Germans and the US and UK against the PLA is not realistic.

If my computer could run PR with any decency (curse technology) I'd do my part in skinning.

PLA vs. Japanese would be epic! Would be happy to, once again, defend the Red Motherland from the nasty japanese aggressors from beyond the seas! ^^
You have to make modern versions of old classic battles from the Sino-Japanese wars in the past. Marco Polo-bridge, anyone?

And cut the "not realistic"-****, boys. PR is about realistic gameplay, not realistic scenarios. My dream is to see every mayor modern army represented in PR, and the Japanese Self-Defense Force is more "mayor" than Norway (lol), Poland or the Netherlands will ever be. Minor European militaries deserves to be put into the game, but when someone starts talking about the army of the richest and, probably, most important country in Asia the thread is filled with BS about how people "don't like the Japanese army"?

Oh, and... Please give 'em Katanas.

I don't know about katana, but some bayonet banzai charges might be in order.

Ah, the Western division. They've got Rangers and WAiR (Special Forces).

lol... how could I miss this topic
I just spent an hour reading 14 pages of discussion on whetter this faction should be added or not.

I'm all for the addition of the JSDF as a new faction.
And as mentioned before... due to the restrictive defensive role of JSDF, I think maps based on japanese soil are better than going for map based in mainland Asia.
However this poses a big trouble as the statics required for such maps are quite different from the Chinese ones available from BF2. CQB mod for BF2 should give an idea of the kind of urban infraestructure needed to replicate a Japanese city. I understand 'though that the first map for this faction would be on the islands located between RoC and Japan in order to use mostly the Chinese assets available.
And yeah... a lot of weaponry would be needed. Pretty much all that has been mentioned.

I do have one funny suggestion for the grenadier kit. I've have been reading Wikipedia's article about the Howa Type-89 assault rifle and found this interesting part:
Attachment of the M203 grenade launcher is possible with the proper adapter.
Source: Howa Type 89 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
LOL! A Type 89 with a M230! That'd be nice for the grenadier kit ;) I tried to find pictures of the combo... No sucess 'though.

But well... I'm gonna ask the "BIG QUESTION":
What's the status of this project?

Reading 14 pages actually left me quite confused over whetter there is people working slowly on some stuff for this or it never jumped out from the status of "proposal".

I'm no modder, modeler or texturer so unfortunately I have zero to offer to this. Although if I had I would have first helped the guys on the argentine faction.

The status is up in the air. Since the only people who want this faction don't have any modding skill, and only one modder has offered support, it's not really getting anywhere.

As for the Type 89/M203, there's a Japanese movie somewhere called "sensenfukoku", that had a Type 89 with an M203 and M4 stock featured in it.

Make a plan, include what vehicles they'll be using, kits and etc. Unless you do so no one will take you seriously or help you out

https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f66-pr ... -info.html

read this and follow the instructions.

It'd be best if you could learn to model, map, texture, code or some form of skill or another that would start this thing up.

Just putting up a proposal and talking about it won't make the faction. get a plan together and start working on a model, map, anything.

I'm all for a JSDF community faction with good maps based in Japan, it'd give the PLANM a faction to invade :)

Good luck and get that plan up.

I don't have any modeling programs, and when I tried, I failed. The only thing I can do is texturing, and that's amateur at best.

And with 2GB of free space left, I can't install BF2 much less PR at the moment.

Thank you 162eRI and sekiryu for that information.
That movie Sensen fukoku looks good.

Not sure if it's possible but I've heard one could work on textures trough PhotoShop right?
If you or anyone ever decide to work on the textures for the player model for this JSDF faction trough PhotoShop, I'd be happy if the brush pack I made for PS is useful to replicate the GSDF camouflage: Flecktarn Brush by ~Panzerfire on deviantART You guys can use. It makes the work of doing Flecktarn camouflage a lot easier. ;)
