Wouldn't the T-72 be massively underpowered when compared to modern tanks like the Abrams and Challenger? Pretty sure that thing is a tad old.

MEC will be getting this and the dev's said that they keeping it the same as the t-90, just in skin and the iraninas and russia have updated t 72 the ones in iraq where how can i put this the cheap export version and would be a match for the abrams and challanger so eh to be honest if i was a middle eastern country and i could make tanks t72 cheap and easy to make and any way be alright for the moment, i love it how people forget it may seem **** becasue of the technology edge the west has but erm 125mm gun i be scared

Depends on the actual model imo
The original T-72 are in the "3rd" generation (Leopard1,M60)

It did get modified (like most Russian tanks) and probably has a good chanse VS abrams
if "Svir" ATGM is utilized (4-6km range).

9M119 Svir - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Otherwise the chances are slim in 1 on 1 "head to head" combat
against newer western tanks.

MEC should keep the T-90 tank.
After all T-90 is just a re-badged T-72 with a few upgrades.
The T-90 was purely designed with export in mind, this is why Russias elite household divisions use the T-80...T-80 is a superior vehicle to T-90 in every way.

T-90S is for export, Russian forces obtains other modifications, AFAIK T-90A and i think your statement about T-80 is wrong, maybe Nosferatu will say his word about it

Mmm? I just said that there's no PR storyline, and the MEC would presumeably use equipment they could build under license or easily purchase in event of global war. I didn't say "MEC and Russia will be fighting" :p

I think MEC should get all Russia's old equipment. So every battle fought against them is assymetrical. 2 T72s verses 1 Abrams, etc, etc...

And throw any grounding in reality for our middle east based professional fighting force out the window! Huzzah!
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

the T72 may not be the newest tank but its not that bad as you might think and not that different from the T-90 which was originaly only a variant ov the T-72 which had been renamed for marketing reasons after the old iraqy T-72 have been destroyed in the gulf war

after reading the above i have to add that its completely correct that the T-80 is supperior to the T-90 since the line of T-72 and T-90 is a budget series for massproduction, while the familie of the T-64 and the T-80 is a kind of a "highend tank" without thinking too much about the costs

It would turn MEC into some middle eastern version of Militia...
I don't like this idea...

MEC must stay as it is.... well equiped middle eastern army able to fight with any other conventional army in PR.

In this case every ME map should have huge air power on the US side.
A-10 carpet bombing Mutrah as hundreds of Tomahawks do their part
I could live with that :D
