Re: Who is MEC ?
Arabs/Iranians would NEVER fight along Jews, remember this is a modern day conflict and for the past 50~ years there's been even bigger hostilities between Israel and the rest of the Middle East. Also, alot of Iranians do speak Arabic, I'm saying its Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Syria, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, UAE, and last but not least, Palestine.

Re: Who is MEC ?
Middle East Coalition IN MY MIND is an Arabs coalition ( the thing ben laden ever dreamed of) against Western block. They do use Russian Equipment cause most are enemy to United States so Occident is not allowed to sell them weapons.
They are surely NOT JEWS. Cause Arabs and Jews... are Arabs and Jews dont need to explain more. IDF would never fight whit Arabs, thats why during Desert Storm, Israel dont send a single soldier.
So at the end, it would be hard to say they are from a specifik contry...

MEC is the Middle Eastern Coalition, that means:
Its a coalition of some middle eastern nations (iraq, iran, afghanistan etc) whi fights against the american occupation of the middle-east,

Re: Who is MEC ?
It's a fictional arabic coallition similar to NATO. It's been described as such many times over, you don't need to ask what people think it is because this is what it is
It's not a single nation, it's not a single unified state of Arabia, it's not Iran/Iraq in a loving embrace, it's a coallition of Arabic nations over the region, stretching at least from Lybia to Saudi Arabia and Oman.

But we dont have a faction called NATO we have US and Brit. Which is a single nation. So i dont see any difference if we called them Iran, Iraq or Saudi Arabia. Thats my 2 cents.

Re: Who is MEC ?
I want to point out that Insurgents speak Arabic on all maps even Korengal -
which is set in Afghanistan (official languages are Dari(Persian) and Pashto).
The militia speaks Russian without any accent, even thou they "should" speak Chechen.
Arabic is the language of Allah - thus the "official language of Islam" sort of speak.
Koran is written in Arabic.
A popular vBF2 (exPR as well) map Gulf of Oman, where the
MEC is up against the US is (most likely) set in G.O.
Iran has a large border on the coast of G.O.
So it would would be logical for Iran to be part of MEC would it not?
Gulf of Oman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"It is generally included as a branch of the Persian Gulf, not as an arm of the Arabian Sea. On the north coast is Pakistan and Iran (Persia). On the south coast are Oman in the east, and the United Arab Emirates for a short distance in the west."
In the past what is Iraq now was part of the "Greater Iran"
Greater Iran - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
They might "hate" each other now,but like the saying goes:
history tends to repeat itself - they could be friends again.
Both countries are Islamic (although different "versions" ) which is the key imo
Side note
I get a warning and 4 points within hours - for posting a picture of 2 girls in T shirts with an "F word" written on these T shirts. But when I screw up a poll
question (number 3) and ask a Moderator to change it right in the 1st post - nothing happens.(cough, cough -hint,hint)
If it's not possible - then sry about the trouble and disregard the side note.

Re: Who is MEC ?
I see MEC as a coalition of Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Oman, Yemen and ... if one day we have persian voices, Iran.
MEC would have been created/enforced by coalition initially, to keep order in the ME and prevent war by giving the ME states a unified system (confederal I suppose, resembling EU) while each country still retains its part of rights on its respective turf. However, after some year of successful working MEC, an extremist movement rises to power for X reason (The burj tower got destroyed by planes hijacked by evil terrorist buddhists? haha) and the new MEC government starts acting radical, treathens bordering countries, international laws, etc...
Then, after the dream that had come true crased, NATO must come back and clean the mess, fix the coalition and bring needed peace to the ME.

Re: Who is MEC ?
If we are speaking nations with majority of arabs we have to take out nations like Lebanon (someone posted a map). Which is all most 50/50 muslin/christian country. And if you go and call Lebanese catholic as Arab you'll get at least an angry look
But this pole is useless cause MEC is fictional coalition and PR happens in the near future, so everything is possible/impossible.

Its the enemy DICE needed for the Marines. Its just a reason to have a middle eastern scenarios without being political.
They are no country or anything, they are just there to fight with the USMC (and with PR, the other western factions too) for no real reason.

Don't think Shia and Sunni in the area necessarily agree that the key is that they're both Islamic:
Sunni-Shia relations - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
BBC NEWS | World | Middle East | Iraq Shias 'attack' Sunni mosques
New Statesman - Sunni v Shia
Shia, Sunnis Forming Iraq Ghettos - Security Council - Global Policy Forum
Sunni-Shia schism 'threatening to tear Iraq apart' | World news | The Guardian
Shia-Sunni Relations

A Violent Cycle in Iraq
Seriously, we're not talking about the differences between Anglicans and methodists and who has better cake sales, here... these are some deep-rooted divisions that date back centuries. Think Protestant/Catholic divisions in Ireland, for example.
Either way, as others have said - they're just someone to play OpFor in a realistic geographical area without attracting any kind of attention regarding it as a political statement.

Re: Who is MEC ?
The (long term) goal is to find out which equipment (Russian/US/French..etc)
MEC should have.Secondary goal is to (hopefully) have some sort of story line
for the "future".It's also great to know what people think.
I think Tannhauser could write some great map "briefs"
edit*
Christians used to kill each other very happily in the past:
It's simply a matter of time.
Islam is the "youngest" (major) religion - they're doing what we (Christians) did for quite a while.
Sunny VS Shiat = Catholics VS Protestants
in the very broad sense.

Re: Who is MEC ?
Um... they have the equipment that the MEC should have? That's why the BTR-90 has been removed and the BMP-3 added/refined, for example. The United Arab Emirates (a pretty strong contender for membership of the MEC in anyone's book, I'd imagine) are generally recognised by most of the sources I can find as being the biggest operator of the BMP-3, having around 40-50 more in service than Russia.
The BTR-80 is in service in large numbers in the region including Iraq, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bandladesh, Iran, Kazakhstan and Sudan, for example. Number of BTR-90s in service in those countries? None. As I said, you've more chance of seeing a sixteen-humped camel in the Mid East than you have of a BTR-90
Andddd, of course people are free to come up with their own storylines for the mod but we won't be adopting one officially any time soon. This has been discussed many times within the team, and it's not going to happen, full stop. It's just too limiting.

Re: Who is MEC ?
I never said MEC should have BTR-90 or T-90 or T-80
agree on all points there ^^^ exept the story lines for the future maps - doesn't hurt to have a good one does it?
Edit*
Big thanks for fixing the poll,it was "public" however
